Best of friendsPut your records on It'd been a week. One single week. Had he called? He shook her head and turned her Ipod up all the way as she started walking down the street. She found some new found strength, that made her hold out. But she knew it wasn't going to last long. Something had to give.
Nearing Belleza, she smiled softly, turning to walk up the pathway and through the slightly open door. "Hello?" She called out, popping out an earbud to hear a reply. But there was none.
Brows furrowed, she walked up the stairs, smiling softly as she passed by Jude. From what she heard, he was a handful. She put her mind back on what she was doing and knocked gently on Ainslie's door. Hearing it creek open softly, she poked her head in.
"Hello? Professor Dah-ling?" She chuckled lightly, seeing her friend sitting at the desk. "You up for a break? Some lunch? A talk or two?" She threw out to her with a gentle smile.

Paying bills sucked. Someone should really get around to stopping that whole system. Bills. Paying for things. Ainslie was a little tired of it, really. She glanced at the sheet of paper again to assure the amount before signing the check. Slipping it into an envelope, she sealed it and scribbled out the address. With a little groan and a sigh, she reached for the next bill. A blip from her laptop made her look up though. IM from her brother. She was tapping out a reply to Louis with one hand and filling in a check with the other when she heard the soft knock on her door. Glancing up, she saw Colette enter and greeted her with a smile. "Hello there, Professor Fox," she returned. "You up for a break? Some lunch? A talk or two?""God yes!" Ainslie exclaimed, rising; she had long ago slipped out of her terrfically fashionable and terrifically uncomfortable boots. She bid her brother goodbye, promising to talk to him later and finished up the check quickly, tucking everything into the front desk drawer. "D'you wanna just eat here?" she suggested, moving to hug her friend hello.

"God yes!"
Colette grinned widely as she leaned against the jamb. "You sound so eagely thrilled to get out of whatever you're doing." She pursed her lips into a smile as she watched Ainslie write out the check and type something onto the computer.
"D'you wanna just eat here?"
She wrapped her arms around her, hugging her softly before tucking a piece of hair behind her ear. "Sounds good to me." She replied softly, sticking a hand into one of her shorts pockets. She turned then, heading back down the hall and downstairs. "So.. Charles left again." She admitted.
"A week ago, actually."

"You sound so eagely thrilled to get out of whatever you're doing."
"I am!" Ainslie replied, rising to move toward her friend. "I was doing bills." Ainslie pulled a face, knowing Colette would understand her pain. As she gestured for her to follow her, she went on, "I swear, these kids are going to put me into the poorhouse. I'm going to run my school like Hogwarts pretty soon; no electricity or gas. Just candles and water through pipes." She pouted softly, crossing her arms over her chest.
They moved into the kitchen and Ainslie starting retrieving food to eat; bread and lunchmeat, mac and cheese, eggs, salad. She herself was planning on just picking on whatever while enjoying a conversation with her friend. Ripping off a hunk of bread, she nibbled as Colette spoke.
"So.. Charles left again. A week ago, actually."
Ainslie's eyes widened at that. "Holy crap, CoCo. Thought he was going to give the government the one-fingered wave. So...what happened?" She knew it was a constant source of disagreement for the two of them; Charles' devotion to his job and not to his family.

"I swear, these kids are going to put me into the poorhouse. I'm going to run my school like Hogwarts pretty soon; no electricity or gas. Just candles and water through pipes."
She laughed out loud at that, shaking her head. "You and me both." She joked, leaning against the counter as she grabbed a piece of lunchmeat and began to nibble on it. "Holy crap, CoCo." She gave a lop-sided nod, her brows raising.
"Thought he was going to give the government the one-fingered wave. So...what happened?"
"You and me both." She sighed, grabbing a chunk of bread. "Supposedly, they wouldn't take no for an answer." She rolled her eyes softly. "Whatever that means." She heaved another sigh, shaking her head. "Which just.. erupted into an argument."
She shrugged. "I told him it'd be nice to know when I'm a single mother." She looked up and at her friend. Waiting for a response.

"You and me both. Supposedly, they wouldn't take no for an answer. Whatever that means."
Ainslie raised her eyes at that. "They made him an offer he couldn't refuse," she parodied softly. She wondered what exactly Charles had meant by that; they wouldn't take no for an answer. Had they threatened him or... Colette? And the kids? She shook her head a little at that. She didn't want to believe that... But could it be true?
"Which just.. erupted into an argument."
Ainslie sighed regretfully, pressing a sympathetic hand over one of Colette's. She knew how hard this had to be for her friend. She just didn't know what to say to make it better. She didn't know if there was even anything she could say to make it better. But she would at least try.
"I told him it'd be nice to know when I'm a single mother."
"Yikes, CoCo," Ainslie breathed out. This was a lot more serious than she had originally thought. "You're not, like, over though, right? I mean..." She exhaled again. What a mess...

"They made him an offer he couldn't refuse,"
She simply shrugged as a reply. Her eyes cast downward at her feet, her arms wrapping around herself. She'd been doing that alot lately. Holding herself. Because apparently his job was more important than their family. Whatever that meant.
"Yikes, CoCo," Ainslie breathed out. This was a lot more serious than she had originally thought. "You're not, like, over though, right? I mean..."
She closed her eyes, shaking her head. "I don't know. We cried, we fought. I asked him not to go. I asked him 'what? Am I not enough?'.." She paused, rubbing her arms. "I asked alot of things. But he still left."

"I don't know. We cried, we fought. I asked him not to go. I asked him 'what? Am I not enough?'.." She paused, rubbing her arms. "I asked alot of things. But he still left."
Ainslie let out everything in a slow, long breath. She slumped against the counter, dropping her elbows to the surface and resting her face in her hands. "Do you..." She hesitated a minute. She was going to ask if she knew when Charles was supposed to come back but she wasn't sure if that would cause Colette more distress... "Nevermind," she decided gently.
"Of course you're enough, CoCo," she assured her, voice leaving no room for argument. "Clearly Charles is at a loss here and can't think of any other option than bending to the government's wishes..." Which was shitty, but it was his choice.

"Do you..."
Colette looked over at her. "Nevermind," She went back to glancing at her white shoes. "I don't know." She sighed out, running a hand through her hair, pushing it back from her face. "I just.. don't know."
"Of course you're enough, CoCo," she assured her, voice leaving no room for argument. "Clearly Charles is at a loss here and can't think of any other option than bending to the government's wishes..."
"Yeah.." Then why did she feel differently? "That's basically what he said too." She smiled lightly, shaking her head. "My point is." She paused, turning and opening the fridge. Seeing an apple there, she grabbed it and began to munch away.
"He still left. Knowing that when he gets back.. whenever he gets back.." She sighed, rolling her eyes. "Parker and Eliza will be at that age, where they can recognize people. They won't recognize him, and that's just.." She shook her head. "Unacceptable."

Ainslie listened intently as Colette reasoned. Once her friend was finished, Ainslie saw her point. And it was a damn good one. If Ainslie ever got to the point where she was having kids with a man (Sargon? Or anyone else), he had to be there with her. Not for her sake, but for the kids. No kid of hers was going to grow up not knowing who their father was.
Sighing, Ainslie followed Colette's example and sought out a carrot. She crunched on a bite loudly, thinking it over. "Yeah," she finally hummed in agreement. "Stupid men," she huffed out, savagely biting the vegetable again. Meeting Colette's eyes, she added, "I know it's not Charles, but... If you're ever stuck or need help with anything... Well, you know I got you, CoCo."
Because Colette would do the same should their situations be reversed. Without any hesitation at all. They always had each others' backs and it would be no different with this.

"Yeah," she finally hummed in agreement. "Stupid men,"
Colette perked a brow, a playful smile on her face as she watched Ainslie bite aggressively on the carrot. "Yeah." She laughed softly, shaking her head. She leaned back on the counter, one arm folded around her as the other held the apple to her lips.
"I know it's not Charles, but... If you're ever stuck or need help with anything... Well, you know I got you, CoCo."
She smiled over at her friend. "At this point, I'd take anyone besides my husband." She cracked a smile. "Needless to say he's in the dog house. For a very, very..." She snapped a piece of her apple off with her fingers, watching it hit the floor. "Long time." She bent over and grabbed the piece, throwing it in the sink behind her.

Ainslie's eyebrows lifted, amused, as her friend spoke. "Whoa, CoCo. What did the apple ever do to you?" She chuckled lightly to show she was only joking. "And if I were Charles, I'd be very careful when I finally did get my sorry ass home."
Finishing up the carrot, Ainslie set the coffee pot to percolate, already needing more caffeine. "I wish I were attracted to women," she said flippantly. "Being a lesbian would be so much easier than dealing with all the bullcrap dudes put us through." She let out a short laugh, shaking her head. She liked men far too much to give up on them entirely though. And she had finally found one that might actually work out.. But she was caught up in empathizing with Colette at the moment.

Colette buried her head in her hands laughing as she shook her head. "It did nothing. It's me." She said through laughter. She shook it off after a moment, nodding at her friend. "Yeah.." She shook her head, looking out at the beauty of the day.
"I wish I were attracted to women,"
That caught her attention, and she flipped her head around quickly, hair flying in her face. She pushed it out of the way just as Ainslie continued. "Being a lesbian would be so much easier than dealing with all the bullcrap dudes put us through." She smiled brightly.
She leaned over, wrapped a arm around Ainslie's shoulder. "You and me both." She chuckled. "So.." She threw the rest of the apple away, not much in the mood for eating at the moment. "Besides my crazy, hectic, pain in the ass life.." She smiled. "What's been going on in Darling-ville?"

"Darling-ville?" Ainslie repeated, smirking. "I kinda like that. Darling-ville..." She shook her head at herself a little, chuckling. "What's been going on... Not much really. Well, I'm lying to you. But only kind of." She shrugged, smiling.
"I've been seeing this guy." She wrinkled her nose, not liking the way that was worded. "Or, well, I saw this guy. We've only been on one date. But I had a realy good time." She smiled, ignoring the light blush she could feel on her cheeks.

Colette perked a brow, turning as she laid one arm on the counter. "Oh? Do tell." She smirked. "I've been seeing this guy." Her eyes grew large for a moment. "Now you really gotta spill." She laughed softly.
"Or, well, I saw this guy. We've only been on one date. But I had a realy good time."
"Oh." She smiled. "Counting from the blush, it's okay to say there's a connection? Do I know him? Is he cute?" She laughed at herself, shaking her head.

"Oh." She smiled. "Counting from the blush, it's okay to say there's a connection?"
Ainslie laughed giddily before nodding. "Oh yes, there was." She rubbed her hand underneath her hair, smiling. "He made me laugh," she said simply, as if that said everything. And it sort of did for Ainslie at least. She loved a guy who could make her laugh.
Do I know him? Is he cute?"
Ainslie smirked, meeting her friend's eyes. "You probably do. Sargon? He's a new teacher at Rosewood. Amarie's brother, actually."

"Oh yes, there was." She rubbed her hand underneath her hair, smiling. "He made me laugh,"
She smiled softly over at Ainslie. That meant the world to any girl. If a guy could make you laugh.. it was best thing in the world. Charles use to do that for her-- Wait. Her brows furrowed as she thought. When did that stop? When did everything go wrong?
"You probably do. Sargon? He's a new teacher at Rosewood. Amarie's brother, actually."
She looked up. pushing some hair out of her face. "Oh, yeah Sargon." She smiled. "[b[Yeah.. he's a cutie.[/b]" She sighed softly, shaking her head as she looked down again. "I feel like I'm a terrible friend." She confided gently.
"Here you are, dishing out the goods.. and all I can think about.." She gave Ains a look. "I'm sorry."

Ainslie's brow furrowed as she shook her head. "CoCo..." Her lips pursed and it ended in a sigh. "No, honey. Don't be sorry. You've got every right to be preoccupied." She chuckled softly, mirthlessly. Sighing out her nose, she shook her head.
"I'm just sorry I don't know how to help you or what to say or whatever." She swallowed and licked her lips. "I mean... I know you'l pull through. Because you always do. I just wish I could tell you that Charles will pull his head out of his ass and realize what's most important in life."
But she couldn't. Because honestly, he had done it before. And now he had done it again, even after supposedly giving up on the government job. It made her sick inside but maybe he really never would see how good he had it with Colette and the kids. Ainslie would kill to have a family like he did.

"CoCo..." Her lips pursed and it ended in a sigh. "No, honey. Don't be sorry. You've got every right to be preoccupied."
She let out a ragged breath, biting her lip as she shook her head. Tears threatened to fall, but she pushed them back. "I'm just sorry I don't know how to help you or what to say or whatever." She didn't think anyone could help her at this point.
A lump grew in her throat, but she forced it down so she could speak. "I said some really.. hurtful things." She placed a hand to her forehead. "Things that you're not suppose to say when you say goodbye."
"I mean... I know you'l pull through. Because you always do. I just wish I could tell you that Charles will pull his head out of his ass and realize what's most important in life."
Why was it everyone thought she'd pull through? A light and short laugh passed through her lips as she shook her head. She was second-guessing everything she saw around her. Her dream, her husband.. though she wouldn't admit it, even her kids.
She covered her face with her hands and just stood there, shaking her head. She couldn't hold it back anymore.. She was holding all the weight in the world on her shoulders. Running a house full of mutant kids, taking care of her own, paying the bills, cooking, cleaning.. It just.. it never ends.
Her shoulders gave the first sign, slumping slightly before shaking. Tears silently fell into her hands as she continued to shake her head.

Ainslie bit her lower lip before moving to her friend. Taking Colette in her arms, she held her tight. "Hey...remember how we were saying you should take a break? Maybe... Maybe you should do that? Focus on your kids and yourself a little. Eloise could handle Biella couldn't she? Or whoever you want to hand it over to." She passed a gentle hand over Colette's hair. "And you know I would help out."
She knew Colette loved her jobs and her kids. But... It seemed like this might be the best thing for her. Stepping down for just a little and taking a little sabatical. It would give her a chance to relax and think and...reevaluate. She knew if she was in her position, she would certainly need a break.
Passing a hand through her hair, she sighed, shoulders dropping. "I dunno," she finished unsurely.
