It was the perfect time of day.
Night time. Well, around seven to be exact. Colette's eyes closed softly as she rocked the twins in her room. The rocker made a slight creek with every movement. So, a soft hum started, which turned into a song she had once sung to Laura when she was a baby.
"Caterpillar in the tree, how you wonder who you'll be. Can't go far but you can always dream. Wish you may and wish you might, don't you worry, hold on tight. I promise you there will come a day.. Butterfly fly away."
She looked down at Parker's closed eyes, turning to look at Eliza who starred silently back at her mom with a soft grin on her face as she grabbed at her finger. "Butterfly fly away, butterfly fly away. Flap your wings now you can't stay, take those dreams and make them all come true.."
She took to her feet as Eliza's eyes slowly closed. "Butterfly, butterfly, butterfly, butterfly fly away..." She sighed, kissing them both gently before putting them in the crib.
She stopped at the door, turning off the light and watching them sleep a moment. Time passed by quickly, her little girl was no longer little. She leaned against the doorjam, sighing softly as she blew them both a kiss. "Goodnight my darlings."

Mo, Mo, Maura, Maura Erin, little sister! That's all anybody talked about anymore. Even Daddy liked her more than him. Everybody wanted to see her, everybody wanted to hold her, and talk to her, and... And even Uncle Dean wasn't here for him to play with. Logan was occupied with his Mommy. Where had Uncle Dean gone, anyway?
Mommy and Daddy were busy visiting Drua and Bennie, and of course they were enthralled with Mo. Ollie had chosen to go off on his own, maybe find someone to play with, or at least talk to. He had gotten bored. Even Andrua, who usually liked to play games with him, was too busy fawning over "little Maura Erin."
Yuck.
A soft, nice voice filled his head. Kind of like Mommy's, but not. He began to walk toward the sound, and found Aunt Co-Lee with her little babies. What was the big thing about babies? Why did everybody seem so interested in them but him?
Poking his head in, he didn't say anything, not wanting to disturb her.

Mom was singing Catapillar to Parker and Eliza. Laura smiled. She won't notice me leaving then.. Laura thought to herself hopefully, Air Trecks in hand. It was time for her to fly again for a night. Mom didn't seem to like ATs after the fourth time Laura broke a bone on them.
What could she say? Accidents happen. She'd had to go and find her ATs after Colette had hidden them. For some reason ATing was the only way she felt Amber anymore. The thought made her tear up, her wolf who died pulling her out of an icy river last year.
Without Amber, Laura felt alone. Suddenly she saw Oliver poking his head into the room where her mom was... If Colette looked at him, she'd be seen. Crap

Colette turned, closing the door softly behind her. She suddenly bumped into something, brows furrowed, she looked down at a silent Oliver. "And what do I owe this pleasure, Ollie?" She smiled, crouching before him.
Her eyes trailed off him to her eldest sneaking down the hallway. She gave her an all knowing look. "Laura Marie Richards. I hope you're not trying to sneak out to go ATing again." She perked a brow at her daughter. She laid a hand on Oliver's shoulder gently as she took to her feet, her arms wrapping around her as she stared at Laura.
She would figure Laura had gotten the hint that Colette didn't like her doing it. Not after breaking so many bones. It was changing her little girl into something Colette didn't know anymore. A soft sigh escaped her lips. "What am I going to do with you?"

"And what do I owe his pleasure, Ollie?" Curling his lips in, he didn't respond, eyes intently looking at the tall woman in front of him. He took a few steps back, letting her out the door, a hand rubbing at his nose that she'd bumped into.
Laura? Turning, Oliver saw Laura walking very quietly down the hallway. Where was she going? Why didn't she say hi? Did no one like him anymore...?
Biting his lip, Oliver wrapped his arms around Colette's leg, staying close.

Laura flinched. She used my full name. She was in trouble. Lie or not? No.. she'll notice if I do. Laura sighed and turned toward them.
"Not anymore." Laura smiled. "Hey Ollie! How are you buddy?" she asked him.

She felt Oliver grab at her leg, smiling down at him softly as she rested a hand on his head. 'Lie or not? No.. she'll notice if I do.' Colette's eyes widened slightly at the sound of Laura's thoughts. She took a deep breath, readying herself for whichever answer her daughter decided to throw at her.
Hating you so much right now, Charles. Leaving me here with our 'on the verge' teenager and twins. She sighed softly. "Not anymore." Laura smiled. "Hey Ollie! How are you buddy?"
Her eyes squinted, trying to see if she was telling the truth or not. She had no reason not to trust her, she had never fully lied to her face before.. Colette scratched at the back of her head as she reached behind her and closed the twin's door closed. "I'm giving you the benefit of the doubt here, Laura."
She smiled down at Oliver, pushing his growing hair out of his eyes. "Your mommy and daddy here, hmm?" She asked softly, starring down at him.

Giving a stiff grin, Oliver held out a hand and waved at Laura. Okay, so maybe she wasn't mad. That was good. At least she said hi. But Co-Lee and Laura seemed to be fighting about something, so he kept out of it for now, burying his face in the back of his aunt's leg, not wanting to face the world yet.
When he felt Co-Lee's hand on his head, he looked up at her, blue eyes shining. He nodded a few times, not wanting to say anything about Mommy or Daddy or Mo. Did everybody, he wondered, talk about and watch Co-Lee's babies like they did with Maura?

Laura sighed sadly. Her itch to "fly" would have to wait another night, but she refused to think this. Laura went back into her room for a few seconds to set her AT's down then went back.
"Hey Ollie, wanna see something cool?" She asked smiling. The roof sounded fun right now. But she'd watch him and make sure he didn't fall.

Colette's head fell to the side as she looked down at Oliver. He was being quiet, more so than usual. "Where's the handsome smile of yours?" She smirked, tapping his nose gently as she crouched down before him. She supposed whatever Laura was doing, would have to be pushed to the back burner for now.
"Hey.. Don't I get a hug?" She smiled, opening her arms wide for him.
"Hey Ollie, wanna see something cool?"
Colette turned her head, looking back at Laura a moment with a perplexed look in her eyes. What was 'cool' to a twelve year old? Or for that matter, a mutant twelve year old. She shook her head, turning her attention back to Oliver for the time being.
Ultimately, it was up to him if he wanted to go with Laura or not.

Giggling, Oliver returned the beep on the nose, allowing a freer smile now, shuffling on his feet excitedly as Co-Lee came down to his level. He caught her face in his hands, examining her for a moment. He loved his Aunt Co-Lee. Warm, nice. He loved her.
"Yah," he replied, opening up his arms and enveloping her in the biggest hug his little arms could give. He held on for a while, face disappearing in her hair. He liked hugs.
Laura's voice calling his name made him perk up. Something cool? Well, as long as it wasn't babies, he wanted to see. Oliver nodded.

Oliver wanted to see it. "Kay get your coat on it's cold out side.
Relax mom. Laura sent to her, trying her empathy out on Colette. I'm not showing him ATs, even if I think he'd be a natural. I'm taking him to my secret spot. Laura grabbed her coat. "This is a secret okay?" Laura asked him, eyes twinkiling. She was probably the only one who knew the secret passage to the roof. Amber and her used to go up there all the time.

Colette smiled back brightly as he hugged her tightly. Her arms wrapped around him comfortably, her hand in his hair as she laid a kiss to his cheek. "That's much better, thank you." She grinned, taking to her feet as she heard a soft whimper from the twins.
'Relax mom.' Colette opened the door and looked back at her daughter a moment. ' I'm not showing him ATs, even if I think he'd be a natural. I'm taking him to my secret spot.' Sighing softly she nodded. "Be careful." She told her, ruffling Oliver's hair.
"Path me if you need me. Okay?" She told them before disappearing into the darkned room to pat the twins back to sleep.

Oliver liked kisses, almost as much as he liked hugs. Even though he wanted to see Laura's secret spot, he wasn't sure he wanted to leave this nice place in Co-Lee's arms. Sighing, he nodded as a "you're welcome," looking over to Co-Lee's daughter with a tiny grin. Coat? Oh, he'd left his coat back in Bennie and Drua's room when he came with Mommy and Daddy.
A troubled expression came over him and he pointed back down the hallway. "Left een woom," he explained softly. "No wann go back dere. Do I gotsta wear a coat?"
He turned even more distressed when Co-Lee left. He chased after her hand, but the door shut in front of him.

Mother felt distant to her, especially after she slammed her door in Ollie's face. Fearing him crying she ran over to him and gave him a hug. "No Ollie, you don't have to. If you get cold, you can wear my jacket." Laura smiled and stood up offering him her hand.
"The secret is this way, come on Ollie!" Laura began walking. Thankfully the passage was in the same level They were on.

Colette sighed softly, leaning against the crib as she thought back on the last couple of months. Dean's mysterious death, Charles's business trips. It seemed everyone she cared about most was leaving her behind. She shook her head, not wanting to dwell on it as she leaned over and planted a soft kiss to the twins' foreheads.
Walking back out into the hallway, seemed she was left alone with her thoughts again. No sight of Laura or Oliver. Her mouth twisted as she thought of the several places Laura could have taken him. The golden room, that small hideout in the attic..
Then it dawned on her. "No.." She shook her head. "Laura wouldn't--" Truth was, she didn't know if Laura would or not. It wasn't safe on the roof, not with the loose shackles and debris. "Laura..." She groaned, running into her room for a coat.

Oliver leaned into her touch and nodded thankfully. He was happy he didn't have to go get his coat. That meant he didn't have to go face Daddy or Mo or anybody else. Taking her hand, he wondered where she might be taking him. "Where we goin'?" he asked, having to take up a mild jog to keep up with her big steps.
Then he started thinking about how Aunt Co-Lee had to go back in the room. She shut the door in his face. Did she not like him either, now? Shaking his head a little, he sighed, deciding it would be best if he just followed Laura to her secret place.

Laura smiled and put a finger to her lips. "Shh.. you'll see." Laura moved up to the appropriate picture and moved it to see a pannel you'd have to move. After moveing the switch she let the picture go and it swung back into place just as the nearly invisible door began moving.
Laura let Oliver take it in for a moment then pulled his hand gently. "Come on." Laura's eyes twinkled with excitement. She had just finnished fixing the little strip of the roof that was flat, an hour ago. It was dark inside the passage. As soon as they were in she closed the door and waited until it was sealed to turn on the light.
Up the stairs she went then opened the door to the roof and waited for Oliver.

Horrid thoughts of what could happen to either of them went flashing through her mind as she swiped her coat off the coat-rack, and slipped on her slippers. This has got to end. Charles has got to come home. I can't do this all on my own. She thought as she wrapped the coat around her and ran down the hallway.
She could only imagine telling Emma or Cian about Oliver being on the roof. A hand went to her head as it pounded against her skull as she neared the hidden door to the roof. She flipped the picture, and pushed the panel, and watched as the door swung open.
"Laura...?" She called out.

He nodded, trying to keep up. She sure was in a rush. When they came to the picture, he looked up at it, and jumped back when the panel moved. He'd never seen such a thing! This sure was secret. How did Laura find it? How could anyone find it?
It was dark in there. Oliver cowered back a little, but Laura went right in. She was brave. He had to be big and brave, too, because he was a big boy. And big boys weren't afraid of anything. Daddy wouldn't be afraid to go in there. That much he knew.
Taking in a deep breath, he held it, stepping lightly into the passage. A cold rush of air washed over him. Were they going outside? He swallowed, treading lightly.
