And she did just that; she curled right up close to him, placing her head gently upon his chest. Corona's mind was still baffled by the fact that this didn't seem strange. She thought this would never happen, that she wouldn't end up being comfortable around a guy she just barely met. Yet somehow, she felt as though she had met him before somewhere. She just couldn't remember where.
Corona didn't really care where this went. As long as she had someone who cared, it didn't really matter what the outcome would be. She smiled softly and then thought of something. "Nic, why....I mean, how....well...what did Evangeline say that made you so angry?" Cor just had to ask. She really wondered what their deal was. She had already told him about her problem with Shames so she wanted to know Nic's problem with Evan. "Or was she just a terrible girlfriend?"

His eyes closed as she laid her head on his chest. His arm encircled her, which was just natural to do with anyone. He hadn't been sleeping well lately, and was beyond tired with everything that had been going on today.
Just as he thought he was ready to hit dreamland, Corona spoke. "Nic, why....I mean, how....well...what did Evangeline say that made you so angry?"
His eyes opened slowly, as he cleared his throat. "Or was she just a terrible girlfriend?" He shook his head. "No.. she was a good girlfriend." He answered softly. "Let's just say.. people change.. Sometimes for the better, and sometimes for the worse. I.. was for the worse, and when I tried to get help.." he trailed off, shaking his head.
"She left. Didn't say goodbye.. didn't bother telling me she had.." He swallowed hard. "An abortion."

"She left. Didn't say goodbye.. didn't bother telling me she had.." He swallowed hard. "An abortion."
An abortion! Really? Corona felt rather ashamed for even asking. She immediately began to speak. "Oh god, Nic, I am so sorry....I didn't...I didn't know. I shouldn't have asked." She bit her lip for a moment and then shook her head. God, Evangeline was a terrible person to do that to someone. It was worse than actually having the kid and just not saying anything about it. "She shouldn't have done that to you. You didn't deserve something like that. I know I would never do that to you."
Cor gently placed a soft kiss upon his chest and then said in a quiet voice, "You had every right to get angry at her. She killed your child without ever even telling you that you had one. That is the most terrible thing someone could do a nice guy like you."

"Oh god, Nic, I am so sorry....I didn't...I didn't know. I shouldn't have asked."
He waved her off, his mind drifting a bit. He heard (partially) what she was saying, but most of it was tuned out. "I know I would never do that to you." His brow furrowed. I highly doubt that, Corona. The circumstances were different.. still are.
"You had every right to get angry at her. She killed your child without ever even telling you that you had one. That is the most terrible thing someone could do a nice guy like you."
He shifted slightly, sitting up. His head rolled along his shoulders before hanging down slightly. "I knew." He whispered. "We were fourteen, Corona... I wasn't ready, I told her that.." His hand reached up, rubbing at the building tension in his shoulders. "Y'don't know.. I'm not standing up for what she did, or saying she was justified in doing it. But.." he shrugged. "It's.. hard to explain."

I highly doubt that, Corona. The circumstances were different.. still are.
Having heard that, she immediately spoke. "Really, I wouldn't...at least, not knowingly. I've already been through losing a child I never got to meet and I would never wish that on anyone...even if my own life was in danger. The baby comes first in my mind." Corona stated sincerely with a look in her eyes that showed that she meant it.
"We were fourteen, Corona... I wasn't ready, I told her that..""Y'don't know.. I'm not standing up for what she did, or saying she was justified in doing it. But.."
"Oh." She muttered softly, looking aside. She swallowed and tried to think of how she would've faced that. To be truthful, she probably would've tried to make it. Cor looked back at him once more and then replied, "Well, you don't have to explain...I understand. In fact, maybe...sometime you could meet my daughter. I'm sure she'd love to meet you, Nic." She gave him a small smile.
Corona felt pretty strongly that Lyra might enjoy that. Lyra seemed to get along with new male people in her life far better than new female people. Besides, if Corona and Nic wanted to give this possible relationship a chance, they had to include Lyra in it before they got too close for Lyra to feel comfortable. She was not going to make Shames mistake of bringing someone new randomly into Lyra's life. "I mean...if we're going to give "us" a chance, I'd like to include Lyra in the process. I don't want to put her through what my former husband did....not again, you know?"

It all seemed to come into one ear and right out the other. It wasn't that he wasn't listening... he was. It was just the memories... every single night they haunted him. Guess being alone or not makes no difference in that. He thought silently to himself, nodding to Corona. "Right."
"Oh."
Yeah... oh. He chewed on the inside of his cheek, eyes slowly moving to look at her as she continued on about him meeting her daughter. A soft light smile spread across his lips. "I'd like that."
"I mean...if we're going to give "us" a chance, I'd like to include Lyra in the process. I don't want to put her through what my former husband did....not again, you know?"
He moved a hand over hers and shook his head, a grin on his face. "Hey.." He whispered. "I already agreed. No need to try and sell it even more. Of course I'd want to meet your daughter. She's a part of you." He smiled, eyes skimming to the alarm clock. "Mm." He sighed deeply. "It's late." He whispered, moving closer to her.
"Sleep now, talk more tomorrow?" He asked through yawns as he wrapped an arm around her. It didn't take long for his eyelids to close, and within seconds--he was asleep.
