It was him, and her.
Cain and Brie
"Cain?" She looked up at him with eyes full of questions, just like always. As if Cain held all the answers, that's what she thought, and always would.
"Hmm?" He smiled down at her as they walked down towards S&S. Her hand was intertwined with his, swinging it gently as they walked side by side.
Brianna was hesitant as she starred up at him. "Everyone has..." She paused, looking around. "A mommy, and a daddy. But I don't have anyone but you, and Josslyn."
"You'll always have us." He reassured her gently, stopping and pulling her to the side. Kneeling down, he smiled softly. "What's goin' on in that head of yours, hmm?"
Her hand lifted, rubbing at her head. "I know..." She paused, her smile skewed. "Can I... call you daddy? And--and can I call Josslyn mommy?"
He reached out, touching her cheek gently. "You can call me whatever you want." He said softly. "And I'm sure Josslyn would agree."
Brianna grinned wide, satisfied with that. "Daddy?" She asked as they went back to walking. Cain laughed softly, turning his head to look down at her. "Yes?"
She shook her head, her ponytail whipping back and forth as she grinned wide. "Nothin'..." She giggled as she looked up at him. "Just wanted to say it."
He laughed, moving to hold her close to his side. "Okay." He nodded, holding the door of S&S open for her. She ran in, running up to the bar and taking a seat. "Daddy?"
His brows lifted as he walked by.
She paused, silent a moment. "Can I stay here forever?" She asked barely above a whisper, her brown eyes locked with his. "With you and Josslyn?"
His heart was beating loud in his ears. How could he promise her that? He was her guardian.. and he didn't know how long that was going to last...
He silently walked over, taking a seat beside her and pulling her into his lap. Brianna's head leaned back, resting against his chest as Cain's arms wrapped around her. "Can I, daddy?" She asked softly.
He sighed, wiping the hair from her face before laying a kiss to her cheek. "Of course you can." He answered just as softly. "Forever?" She echoed, turning to look at him. "Forever and ever?"
He smiled. This was all just to make it right for her. Even if it came to that point... they would deal the best they could. But Brinanna needed stability. She wanted more than anything just to be a kid. How could he tell her no? He nodded gently. "Always."
Silence.
Brianna reached out, grabbing his chin and making a face. "Daddy?" Cain laughed, shaking his head slightly. She was always full of questions. "Yea, Brie?"
Her nose crinkled as she patted his cheeks. "You need a shave!" She giggled out before Cain took her into his arms and began tickling her. "Oh I do, do I?" He laughed.
"Yeeeesssss!" She screeched out through her laughter.
"Yes what?" He questioned, tickling her even more.
She laughed, gripping at his hands in an effort to make it stop. "YES DADDY!" She screamed out through her laughter.
"That's better." He smiled, plopping her to her feet. "You go find Dommie and bug him while I get set up." She nodded quickly, running back into the back room. "DOOOOOMMMIIEEE!" She schreeched.
He could hear a faint struggle, and a loud bang. He shook his head, laughing as he started wiping down the counter. "GOT YOU!" She laughed in the background.
He grinned. "Yeah, you got me." He whispered softly to himself.
