((It's okay with me. ^^ ))
Go? Now that she had finalized--or close enough--her decision, he regretted not saying anything. He wanted Lyra to see her, her to see Lyra. They still needed each other. And now that she was back from the dead (what!?), things were different. Taking off his hat and scrubbing a hand through his hair, he calmed down as Lyra stopped Cor before he did. Shames replaced his hat on his head and went up to her. "I didn't say that," he began shakily, still trying to absorb the fantasy of her return. It worried him that she was seeing him as some monster that she had to succumb to.
"That's right," he agreed cheerfully with Lyra, hoping to raise her spirits. "Mommy stay."
For at least a little while, anyway.

Corona picked Lyra up and smiled, hugging her little girl while she stared at Shames in disbelief. Her eyes showed that she was sane once more and she was irritated. "Why do you do that, Shames? Why do you play these games with me? I've been locked in the Torture Chambers of Hell and the only one that's truly glad to see me is my four year old daughter." She sighed with frustration hidden in her voice. It was then she noticed that in that short while, Lyra had fallen right to sleep in her mother's arms.
"I was hoping....you'd be happy. Possibly even thrilled. I mean, sure, I died. But I'm back now. Your wife, your Corona is back now." She said with a soft voice. Cor looked down at sleeping Lyra and gently stroked her hair. "I-I mean....did you even...really miss me? Aren't you happy to know....I'm okay?"

Tripping, arms flailing about as she ran down the street, tears streamed down her face as she remembered his words. 'I know what you did, Eva.. I know. And don't think you can hide in New York. It's big, I'll give you that. But you and I both know I know you best. What did you think was going to happen? Did you think you could just get away with that, huh? HUH!?' She choked out a strangled cry as she stopped at Shames' driveway.
Bent over, trying to catch her breath and calm her nerves. His words just continued in her head. 'THAT HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH IT, AND YOU KNOW IT EVA! YOU THINK YOU HAD IT BAD BEFORE? WAIT TILL I GET MY HANDS ON YOU! I WILL KILL YOU!'
Wiping furiously at the tears, she straightened herself out, still shaken from the call as she walked up to the door. She stood there a moment, telling herself not to burst into tears when she first saw him. Just.. knock on the door, Evan.. just knock. She sighed softly, picking up her hand and giving a three knock rhythm on the door.

He wanted to get angry. He wanted to point a finger at her and tell her that it was her own insecurity that assumed that he wasn't thrilled. He wanted to scream and throw things and shake her and tell her to snap out of it; she was home; he was seeing somebody else... Fuck...
How could he do it? How could he let her down again? But if he didn't answer right away, she would be even more upset. Would it be a lie to tell her that he wasn't happy; that he didn't miss her? "I did miss you," he replied confidently, assuredly. "And I'm happy to know you're all right." But things can't be the same way they were...
Everything had...changed.
The knock on the door made him jump, and he was glad for the distraction. Shames, looking to Corona, went to the door, turned the knob, and exposed a tear-stained, distraught, afflicted Evangeline. "What's wrong?" he asked, concerned.

When she opened her mouth to protest, there was a knock at the door. Then, Shames opened it and Corona laid her eyes on some recently crying woman. It seemed to blast through her like she had been hit by a cannon. This had to be here...the girl Shames was with. Her brown eyes stared at the girl and then swallowed. She was beautiful.....young......perfect. Corona wanted to run. She wanted to run and not come back. She felt so insecure. This woman was more gorgeous, younger, and far more perfect than she could ever wish to be.
Her eyelids lowered her view. "I..." She mumbled shyly and then turned quickly and traveled up the stairs to seem as if she was putting Lyra to bed. Truthfully, she just didn't want to be there. Cor felt so ugly compared to that girl and she hated it. It then hit her that her value had gone down. That girl didn't look very witty or upbeat like she had been with Shames........but she was attractive. You're right.....things have changed......and I.....don't compete with her. She thought into his head before putting Lyra down in her little bed. Well...at least she still had her precious girl.

The moment the door opened, the second she laid eyes on him, she burst into tears. Even though she had sworn herself not too, she couldn't help it. Nicolas was a big part of her past, one she had hoped to move on from. But it seemed he wanted her, and not forever like in fairytale books. No.. he wanted her dead.
"What's wrong?"
She covered her mouth with her hand as she starred at him. "I was perfectly fine then the phone.. it rang.. it was him. Shames, it was him. I know I shouldn't have come but--" She took a deep breath as she rambled on. Tears continued to stream down her face.
"I..."
She looked past him, and knew exactly who that was. Corona.. but wasn't she deceased? "I'm sorry.. I shouldn't of come." She told him, wiping at her face as she quickly turned around to leave. "Don't." She spoke up before he could say anything. "Don't worry about me.. I'll... I'll be fine." She told him as she continued to wipe at her eyes. "I'll be fine."

Overload, overload...
T'fuck was going on? And why so fast? He was dealing with two overly emotional, distressed, freaking-out women. How could he be expected to be calm and serene about this? Taking a deep breath, Shames put a hand on Evangeline's shoulders, leading her inside. "Oh, no you don't," he chuckled, trying to lighten her mood, but knowing right now might not be the time, "you're not going anywhere. And don't you know telling me not to worry is only going to make me worry more?"
Shutting the door behind them, he laid a kiss to her cheek, keeping her close. "What's going on, then? Who called?"
Corona's absence dawned on him, and he turned to see where she had gone. Her thoughts purged him, and he sighed. It's not a competition, he thought back, knowing they were loud enough for her telepathy to pick up on them. You're beautiful in your own right, Corona. Inside and outside. Please come back downstairs.

Corona had taken to sitting by the bed and the window, gently stroking her sleeping girl's dark brown locks. She was so beautiful. Cor knew Lyra would grow up to find all the boys chasing after her. She chuckled and then was troubled by his thoughts. I don't want to. She's so much prettier than I....I'd feel......ugly around her. Please Shames, don't put me through this kind of pressure. I can't handle it right now.
She didn't want to deal with this. Why would anyone want to face the fact that their world was ripped into pieces?

"Oh, no you don't," he chuckled, trying to lighten her mood, but knowing right now might not be the time, "you're not going anywhere. And don't you know telling me not to worry is only going to make me worry more?"
She had to admit, she was happy he didn't just let her go. Maybe she could actually open up to him. But there was also the small fact of Corona.. who was upstairs. But still.. despite her being... undead, didn't that mean they were still married? Was she now cheating with someone's husband? Her head was spinning. "Mhm." She nodded softly, wrapping her arms around her.
"What's going on, then? Who called?"
The gentle kiss to the cheek, made her close her eyes and lean into the safety of his arms. "N-Nicolas.." She breathed out heavily. The tears stopped finally, but now she was starring out into nothingness. The conversation was on replay in her mind. Over and over again.. the words.. the threat.. the knowing he would do if he got the chance.
She shook her head. "I'm so sorry, Shames. You're busy.. I.. I should have called.." Her brows furrowed as she looked at him. "Should I go?"

Corona's thoughts came flooding in as he tried to deal with the woman who had been crying earlier and looked to be on the verge of birthing more tears. He sighed, not wanting to push Corona past her limits, but not wanting to give in so easily. His first instinct was to insist that she didn't have a choice and he wanted her down here, but his conscience told him to respect her wishes. It made sense that she didn't want to be around Evan. If or when Evangeline left, he would have a long talk with Cor about her return, and what she wanted to do about their...relationship. She, after all, was still in the foreground, not as faded as she thought.
Pushing those contemplations aside, focusing on the distraught woman in front of him, he brought his brows together, eyes searching hers. "Who is Nicolas?" he asked gently, never wanting to push her into something too fast or too strong.
"No," he insisted. Shames noticed how her eyes moved to the staircase. "I can talk with her later. Right now...right now I think she just needs some time with her daughter. You know? This whole...coming back from the dead has us all a little flustered," he chuckled.
Hey...my little friend isn't interrupting me. Evan can make them go away, too?

Sighing, Corona stood and walked to the window. For some reason, she didn't feel like Shames.....wanted her back. She had no intention of upsetting him by her arrival. She hoped that he would've gave her some sign....or something. But she didn't blame him for falling out of love. But she would've thought he might be a little happier like he was when she returned from being evil. After all, they had been through so much together. Did it even matter anymore? Cor just wanted her happy little life back with her happy little family. Not a messed up one where she felt she no longer fit among the living.
She sighed and then gently kissed Lyra on the head, though the girl was still asleep. Cor walked out of the room, closing the door silently behind her. She then walked downstairs and right into the kitchen without even paying attention to the cuddly couple near the entrance. It just felt like right now was good time to cook. So that was what Corona did; she cooked.

"Who is Nicolas?"
It was habit, swallowing her tongue while she stood there, having heard that name after so long. Even hearing it come out of her own mouth was enough to make her sick to her stomach. But when he said it. God.. She closed her eyes tightly, forcing herself to say something--anything!
"I can talk with her later. Right now...right now I think she just needs some time with her daughter. You know? This whole...coming back from the dead has us all a little flustered,"
Right.. flustered about people coming back from the dead-- was she the only person who thought that sounded so wrong? So.. make-believe? She nodded, her shoulders relaxing a bit as she stood there. Better out than in, right?
"He's.. my ex." She paused, her eyes meeting his. You can do this Evan.. come on. She took in a shaky breath and sighed. "My.. abusive ex."

He wet his lips as she spoke, feeling a dark pit form at the bottom of his stomach. A girlfriend with an abusive ex-boyfriend, an upset wife come back from the dead, and a child who disapproved of his girlfriend but wanted the woman who wasn't really his wife anymore and he just couldn't take it all at once. Letting out a slow breath, taking each unsettlement one at a time, he leaned against the counter, taking a peek into what Corona was stirring before setting his eyes on Evangeline again, coming to her, speaking in whispers, not wanting to make Corona any more agitated.
"And he called?" he confirmed, as if she hadn't just said that a moment ago. "What for?" The worst started flooding into his mind--a threat to find her, a threat to kill her, some sort of danger that would make her inclined to come to him to talk about it. It had to be unnerving. And the tears... They continued to pour down her face even as she started to even out her breath.
He couldn't imagine how he felt this way about Evan, and yet he had to start to dust off the feelings he had for Corona. She needed him, too, and he still loved her...but he loved Evan, too. Biting his lip, he waited for one of the women to say something; provoke something. Because he was about to break.

Though she seemed content, she wasn't. After all, Cor could still here them. Well, at least, she could hear whispers behind her. That didn't make her feel any better though. She let out a frustrated sigh and started stirring the bowl of what would eventually be cookies rather rapidly. She took a glance over her shoulder for a split second with somewhat of a glare on her face. Corona then rolled her eyes and looked back at the food. She scooped the contents onto a cookie sheet and then put it in the oven. When it seemed like she was going to leave, she opened the cupboard and proceeded to make sandwiches.
She looked up again, a mix between sadness and anger in her eyes. Why? Why her? Wasn't he happy? Or couldn't he pretend to be happy? Did he want her to die? Did he not want her to come back if it was possible? Did he know that she hadn't be the only one killed in the process? Corona bit her lip, finishing up with an eighth sandwich. Was she not allowed to love him anymore? She had so many questions, but she feared bothering to ask.
Stopping suddenly, Corona shifted to the cutting board to chop up vegetables. It seemed it was a little bit more relaxing. But soon enough, pondering those questions just got to her. She looked up suddenly and stabbed the knife into the cutting board. "It's not fair!" Corona snapped. "I came back for YOU, Shames! You & Lyra. And you have no clue how much pain I went through for resisting Hell. In fact, you'll never know it. I did NOT come back to have my life stripped away from me."
Her hand was still gripping the handle of the knife so tightly that she trembled. "I did not come back to have my former husband act as though I never existed....as if I didn't matter." Corona said softly, now beginning to tear up a bit. "I didn't have to fight them, you know. I could have just given in. But I didn't...because you and Lyra were too special. I worked too hard to get out of there to get back to you.......don't abandon me now. I don't want to lose you now."

"And he called?" he confirmed, as if she hadn't just said that a moment ago. "What for?"
She pulled her lips in, her eyes closing. She could feel his hand on her arm as he whispered to her. even now tears were welling. To think it, to say it out loud.. it was worse than having to tell him. Much worse. She shook her head softly, forcing herself to say something--anything.
"I don't.." She sighed heavily, her head hanging slightly. She did know, but she didn't want to worry him to death. He had enough on his plate as it was, with Corona being here and Lyra simply hating Evan's guts.. even when she tried everything to change that.
"There's more, Shames." She whispered. "But now--here." She looked towards the kitchen. "It's not the time." She reached out, squeezing his arm a moment before rubbing it gently. "I think I should go, I know--" She flashed a smile at him.
"It's not fair! I came back for YOU, Shames! You & Lyra. And you have no clue how much pain I went through for resisting Hell. In fact, you'll never know it. I did NOT come back to have my life stripped away from me."
Evan's head looked back at the kitchen, pausing and listening. She swallowed roughly, slowly looking back at Shames. "But I think you should spend time.. with your wife right now.. So.." She gave a nod, leaning forward and kissing his cheek softly. "Call me?" She askes gently, walking to the door.
Don't. Don't turn around.. Don't look back.. Evan.. She took a deep breath, hand on the doorknob. Why aren't you moving? One foot.. C'mon, Evan..

Everything was erupting around him. Evangeline and her problems, Corona's return, and now she exploded. He knew she would. He just hadn't thought it'd be so soon. Not that he'd hoped that it would fester inside her, but he needed time to adjust. He couldn't take three women hating him. Corona hated him for his judgment, Lyra for dating Evan, and Evan for not having the sanity to sort out her issues like he should. Damn it.
And fuck it all, she was screaming at him.
"No, I don't!" he agreed, grabbing his hair and then letting go, throwing his hands up. "I don't know what you went through, and you can't expect me to empathize because...well because I just can't. I'm in a hard place, too, Corona. I don't know what you went through and I didn't think it was possible to come back from the dead, so I wanted to find happiness again. You can't expect me to drop everything I've worked for. I love you, I do, and it's so hard to love two people at the same time."
Shames covered his face with one hand as Evan pressed up to kiss his cheek. "As soon as I can," he promised under his breath. "I'm sorry."
But she didn't leave; didn't move from the doorway. Was she hesitant about letting her go, too? Because he sure needed the support. Not that he'd ever ask her for it. Not when she had so much to deal with herself.
He sat down on the floor, leaning against the counter, hands diving into his hair. "I'm sorry, Cor. I--drah!--am. I don't know--wah!--what to do."

Corona had expected Shames to go charging after Evan, but when he didn't, she thought nothing of it. She was too caught up in her thoughts. Biting her lip hard enough to cause it to bleed, she shuddered. "Yeah, I get it. Why don't you just go with her, hmm? Then why not just tell me to leave, hmm? I could.....go back to England...take Lyra with me, and you could come visit whenever you felt like it." She said, wiping her eyes and then putting the vegetables in a soup on the stove.
"Then you can stay here and live happily with your little.....whoeversheis....and I'll try to find something better in England. Because it appears I've already lost you anyhow and you say, you found your own happiness. Of course, I see no ring on her finger. As if.....out happiness....wasn't enough." At that point, she put her elbows on the counter and her hands covered her face. She was crying and her shoulders shook. "I mean....it doesn't matter how hard I try, I'll never compete to that." Cor sobbed, pointing to Evan. "I might as well give up. You win, whoever you are. Take him. I'm done with this."
Corona turned the soup down and then walked right up to Evangeline. She then grabbed the doornob, flinging the door open and almost smacking the girl in the face in the process. Cor stopped down the front steps, head in hands, crying. She thought maybe taking a walk might help.

Evan closed her eyes, her feet froze to the ground as she listened to them. Her heart pounding so fast--so loud.. She could hear it all in her ears. Tears dried on her face, mouth slightly open as he fingers clutched at the doorknob..
Two people.. Her breath hitched, her eyes open. Slowly, she turned her head, looking back at him. "I'm sorry." She swallowed roughly, feeling the sting of more tears in her eyes. She watched him take to sitting on the floor, her heart aching to see him look so completely wrecked.
"I'm sorry, Cor. I--drah!--am. I don't know--wah!--what to do." "Yeah, I get it. Why don't you just go with her, hmm? Then why not just tell me to leave, hmm? I could.....go back to England...take Lyra with me, and you could come visit whenever you felt like it."
Could she do that? Her eyes looked back to the doorknob. Would Corona do that to him? She couldn't--I won't let her. She told herself. She just had to let go.. Let go of it.. Let go of it all..
"Then you can stay here and live happily with your little.....whoeversheis....and I'll try to find something better in England. Because it appears I've already lost you anyhow and you say, you found your own happiness. Of course, I see no ring on her finger. As if.....out happiness....wasn't enough."
Those words stung worse than any snake bite or bee sting. Ten times worse, even. She sucked in a breath, her eyes still slammed shut as she tried to will herself to let go of her past. To let go of Shames when she knew this was wrong--He was married. As much as she loved him--she wouldn't let that happen.. She wouldn't let him let go of Lyra just to be together..
"I mean....it doesn't matter how hard I try, I'll never compete to that." Cor sobbed, pointing to Evan. "I might as well give up. You win, whoever you are. Take him. I'm done with this."
It hit her like a bus, the door flung open, just hitting her in the cheek--as Corona stormed out. One hand on the bruised portion of her cheek, she instantly let go of the knob and walked out after Corona. "CORONA!" She screamed.
Too much was building up. Corona didn't know her--how could she judge her like that? "One; my name is Evangeline--not 'whoeversheis'. Two; you can't do that to him. He was here protecting that little girl." She pointed back at the house. "And maybe that sweet little Lyra hates me--" Her eyes teared. "But you can't help who you fall for! Yes, I fell for Shames--for your husband. But I am not going to stand in the way of him being with his daughter." She wiped at her face, dropping her hand from her cheek. "So you just wait--I'll leave."

No. No, no, no, no, no. Both of them were not leaving him. But what could he do? His heart belonged to both of them. Corona had been his wife of four years, had given him a beautiful daughter. He couldn't drop that. But she had died. It had hurt like hell and it still did, but she was back. And Evangeline gave him back the moments of happiness he'd felt when Corona was alive. How could he give those up?
The stress provoked more tics, and he sat there for a long time, waiting for them to die out. They were reluctant and slow to oblige, but eventually they became scarce, and only then was he brave enough to face both of them outside.
"You're not going to talk to me that way," he said delicately to Corona, holding up a finger. "Because all of that? All of what--drah!--you said? It's a fuckin' lie. I'm tired of hearing that you're not good enough, because if you weren't, I wouldn't have married you. You have to understand that, Corona. I-I'm not perfect. I don't know how to deal with...everything that's coming at me, and I'm sorry if I'm a little--drah!--slow on the uptake. I can't consume everything at once. Please don't be so..."
He didn't finish, shaking his head, tears in his eyes, throat raw and forbidding any more speech.
Shames dropped his head. He sighed. It was useless. She'd just come back with something else about how she wasn't good enough or something ridiculous like that. He didn't want to hear it.

Corona stopped and then let out a frustrated muffled scream-sigh. "Do what to him? Leave?! He doesn't want me here. The only one truly happy to see me is my little girl. Besides, he's not my husband anymore. Till death do we part. And I died so...that bond no longer exists. If it did, I probably wouldn't be so upset, now would I?" She said with a irritated tone. Cor walked up to Evangeline. "He obviously fell for you for some reason. And it was obviously a big enough reason for him to forget about me. As for Lyra, maybe you should try to put yourself in her shoes and then her behavior would make sense. Her mother fell off a roof, and she saw it happen," Before she could open her mouth to say something again, Shames spoke.
"You're not going to talk to me that way," he said delicately to Corona, holding up a finger. "Because all of that? All of what--drah!--you said? It's a fuckin' lie. "Be so what? Stubborn? No, that's not what I am. I'm upset. I'm devastated! Shames, you have to understand this. We're not married....at least, not anymore. You're not mine....anymore. I should have considered that before I walked here in the first place. It was stupid of me to think things would be the same; to think that you wouldn't move on. Me and my stupid fairytale mind." Corona stated and then shook her head. Gently putting a hand upon his cheek, she looked at him. "I tried, but...I'm too late.....obviously. Early bird gets the worm...and I was not the early bird for sure. You don't....have to keep loving me....if you don't...want to. I mean, this isn't as terrible as Jacque."
