"No," she replied hastily, fumbling, tripping over her words a little as she wiped her eyes dry. "No, you...you didn't." At least she sighed, like she was spending the last of her energy, the last of her fears. Though she wasn't quite sure how to answer his second affirmation--could she honestly say she missed the hugs, too?--she smiled, anyway, briefly glancing up at him, meeting his eyes for only a fraction of a second.
Finding a way to joke about it, she chuckled, "Thought you said you were over me."

At the joke, his face did not brighten. He simply narrowed his brows a bit and then looked away. With a straight voice, he said, "I meant as a friend." Saikoro then was quiet. He didn't have anything else to really say. Honestly, what could he say? After a moment, he took hold of the stroller and then shrugged. "I should....probably be going...to fetch Molleigh, wherever she scrambled off too."

Just like that, her smile vanished, and she took a step back. "It was a joke. Lighten up," she muttered, a brow arched, wondering what animal had crawled up his ass and died there within the two minutes between their hug and her comment. And 'fetch Molleigh'? Was she a dog? Couldn't he stay a while? How could she go through this emotional trauma with him to have him just leave abruptly, as if he was afraid to stay with her? As if not wanting to deal with the stress he helped cause? He'd just gotten done blaming her for the misery in his life, and he was okay with that?
All of a sudden she wished she could talk to God again.
"Sai?" she called after him, hoping he might turn around. Without waiting, she asked softly, "Do you believe in soul mates?"

It had just been that he had obviously made her nervous. At least, the random hug seemed to have shaken her up a bit.Why should he stay if it simply made her freak out and get nervous? Saikoro was almost about to leave when her words stopped him dead in his tracks. He was silent for a moment, trying to understand why she would ever need to ask that in the first place. Finally, he turned his head and looked at her quizzically.
"U-Uh...Emma...we're....we're not soul mates. I meant, to even suggest that would be...would be....would be...incorrect." He stammered with worry as well as utter disbelief in what she was saying to him.

His answer was what caught her off guard, and she replied, "I didn't mean do you think we're soul mates. Just soul mates in general. Do you think they exist?" Was it just that she and Cian were meant to meet, or meant to fall in love? Could she have still loved Saikoro, even though she met Cian? This would strip her of any possible lucidity, but she was willing to embrace the hypothetical possibility.
"Do you think Amarie is yours?" she pressed, needing to know for some reason. It suddenly seemed imperative.

Saikoro immediately shook his head and then cleared his throat. "No...I do not believe they exist. If I did, I would've given up on love after I lost Analine. You and I would've never met and everything would be different. Soul Mates can't exist for it would make the world so...straight forward. Nothing would be original, unique, or spontaneous." He stated clearly with some feeling in his voice. It was obvious that he really did feel this way.
"Amarie is my wife and I love her. But I don't think it was destiny that brought us together, it was just the fact that she cared about me and happened to be there in a very difficult time in my life, you know?" He raised a brow, though he really couldn't see her anyway.

She wasn't as disappointed as she thought she was. Nevertheless, his answer upset her, but at least he had some sort of logic. Jaw shifting in thought, she moved her weight to the other leg. "Okay. I guess I can get that." Somehow this whole "fate" thing Omnipotent had been describing didn't seem so convincing. Human conceptions seemed so much more grippable; handlable. Everything else was just too cosmic and almighty to understand on Earth.
And what about me, Sai? she begged internally, wishing she could say it out loud. Where were you in a very difficult time in my life? I don't understand...
She wasn't about to outright say she had some regrets about leaving him, but that didn't mean they didn't exist. He would always be a part of her life, her past, and there was nothing she could do (want to do) to change that. Oliver was a part of him, too, and that was something she could never erase.
"And what about us? What brought us together that night?"

Saikoro turned his back on her and shrugged his shoulder, obviously not feeling too comfortable with this conversation. "I-I don't know....cause...cause you seemed as though you were a reincarnation of Analine? I don't.....I just...d-d-don't know, E-Emma." He sputtered out rather quickly, almost shyly in fact. He didn't say anything after that, he was just silent.
