I want the chanceSo Small - Carrie UnderwoodIt was such a beautiful day, shame to be cooped up inside, which led her to walk around New York. IPod up high, she closed her eyes a moment, waiting for the walk light to flash.
She dug into her picket, pulling out her phone. She should call, but she thought a text would be a tad bit easier. Fingers typing away at the number pad, she looked over it one last time before hitting send.
Shames, you and Lyra up for a day out? I'm thinking hit the park, grab some food. Just take in the beauty of the day. What do you think?
She heard a slight beep, her head lifting as she waved as Dean drove by with Logan in the passenger seat. That boy, he looked so completely and utterly happy.
She smiled brightly, laughing gently as she crossed the street towards Central Park. She looked down at the phone in her hands. Ten past two, now all she had to do was wait for a reply.

There it was. That distinct double beep that told him someone was thinking about him. Or needed him for something. Hoping for the former, he pulled his phone from his pocket, settling Lyra on his lap with a book in her hands. He read the text message and smiled, taking a longer look at the name. Evangeline. He accepted readily, typing back: I think we're already on our way. See you soon. <3 Stuffing the cellular device back in his pants, he bounced Lyra on his knees. "Hey, valentine," he murmured her nickname with a grin, face against her hair, "what do you think about slipping into some shoes and going to see Evangeline at the park? It's a nice day out. And she really misses you." Giving her a playful nudge, he felt his grin stretch even further across his face.

It had become a routine. It didn't matter what she did, they seemed to always end up spending some time of the day with that woman. Sure, Lyra had gotten used to seeing the lady around...but it didn't make her happy. She missed "Mummy, Daddy, & Lyra time"; she missed it a lot. Lyra looked at her bare feet and then back to the book. "But--we didn't.....the book....I want." She looked up at his eyes and then sighed, "Okay." Lyra hopped down from his lap and slunk over to put on her Minnie Mouse tennis shoes.
After she did, she rose slowly and tipped her head to the side. "Will...will um...mummy becoming too?"Ly asked with a small glimmer in her eye. "Because she should, that way...I don't feel so alone." She grabbed her stuffed animal toucan, one of her newest stuffed animals.

She stopped at one of the stands that littered the park. Smiling at the man, she ordered a small Pepsi, and quickly paid him as another song switched over on her iPod. Taking a sip, she flipped through the list of song before letting it go on Colbie Caillat's falling for you.
Her head bobbed slightly as she took a seat at a bench near the entrance. easier to find him by doing this. Though, it wasn't hard to find him at all. He stuck out a little with Lyra on his side. She really loved that little girl, even if Lyra didn't feel the same.
Her phone vibrated in her pocket, she grinned, pulling it out as she read the text. I think we're already on our way. See you soon. <3 She laughed to herself, giving a nod as she placed it back in her back pocket.
She closed her eyes, leaning her head back. Letting the summer sun shine down over her as Colbie sang in her ear. "I've been spendin' all my time, just thinkin' 'bout ya.." She sang softly, a smile on her face.

"We can bring the book along, honey bunch," he offered easily. It might even give them an excuse to get extra close so everyone could read along and see the pictures. Holding the book while she trotted to go slip into her shoes, Shames smiled, watching her, fascinated by her. Every moment she was learning something. He remembered the first time she knew what a shoe meant. After all that time watching him and Corona put a shoe on her foot, she'd finally, one day, stuck out her foot when they held up her shoe. He'd never been prouder of his daughter.
"Will...will um...mummy becoming too?"Ly asked with a small glimmer in her eye. "Because she should, that way...I don't feel so alone."
Then his smile vanished, very shortlived. "You won't be alone, Lyra. I will be there. And so will Evangeline. But, sure. We can...we can call Mum and see if she'd like to come along." He liked to adapt her accent to make her feel more at home, more comfortable since the loss of Corona.
Quickly whipping out his phone again he texted Evangeline:
Ly's worrying me. She wants Cor. Ok if she comes? I'll spend my time with u and she can have her time w/ her mom. Plz don't hate me? <3 <3 <3

Lyra looked at him with a keen yet hopeful eye. She wondered what he would say. She saw the frown and it worried her. "You won't be alone, Lyra. I will be there. And so will Evangeline." At that point, she crossed her arms and humphed a bit, only to be cheered up by his next words."We can...we can call Mum and see if she'd like to come along."
Immediately she beamed and clapped her hands happily before running up and hugging him tightly. "Thankyou thankyou thankyou daddy!" She said and began skipping happily singing 'It's mommy, daddy, and Lyra time and we're going to the park. Yay!' over and over.

Wild Horses - The SundaysSipping on her Pepsi, she soaked in the sun. God, she loved summer. All the brightness, the sun's warmth.. Shorts, gotta love wearing shorts, and dresses, and skirts. Her smile widened as she thought about it all. Her phone vibrated once more in her pocket as her favorite song came ringing in her ears. Pulling the cell from her pocket, she opened up the text. It was Shames, and she couldn't help but smile. Ly's worrying me. She wants Cor. Ok if she comes? I'll spend my time with u and she can have her time w/ her mom. Plz don't hate me? <3 <3 <3Her brows furrowed, and a soft sigh escaped. She gave a nod, typing out a reply quickly before hitting send. She bit down on her lip, waiting for a reply, or for him and Lyra to come. I could never hate you. And sure, Corona is more than welcome to come. I hope Lyra is okay, and I can't wait to see you <3

A weighted feeling of guilt pressed down on his chest. He sighed, mostly at himself, for not being able to resist a single request his daughter made. This might have been pushing the envelope, though. Crossing the line. Corona couldn't be part of his relationship with Evangeline, no matter how much Lyra insisted she see her every day. She could be part of his family, but not his relationship. That's just the way it was going to have to work out.
Which was why he sent an extra three less-than-threes to Evan via text message before vowing to spend most of his time with her at the park.

Of course, Corona was not coming. She wouldn't even answer the phone if someone were to pay her. Which was why Lyra tried nearly seven times using the normal phone because she knew the number. She was a smart little girl. Eventually, Lyra gave up and put the phone down. She walked up to her dad and then sighed. "She's not answering." Her voice sounded like the cutest version of monotone, but Ly wasn't trying to sound cute. Hugging her Toucan, she made for the door, hoping that her daddy would get the queue and follow.
Guess it was just going to be her, daddy, and that lady again. Lyra hoped this wouldn't last long. She didn't trust that woman. It was like she was trying to be something more than just a person to her and it made Lyra uneasy. Random women didn't hang out often unless they were mommy. Who did this lady think she was? Definitely not mommy, right?

Her eyes closed, her foot tapping the ground to the beat that sounded through her ear buds. Opening her eyes slowly, she reached up a hand, blocking out the sunlight as she read the time on the cellphone.
She felt like laying down in a field of flowers, about now. She sat up, looking around her. Seeing a tree nearby, she took to her feet and walked towards it. A little boy, no more than five walked by, smiling at her. "Hi." She waved, smiling back.
His mother shot her a smile, taking her sons' hand and walking away. But the boy, looked back at Evan with a grin. She smiled back, sitting down against the tree.
[[No riles, it was your turn. Your after me, Jacks is after you, and I'm after Jacks. lol So you were right on with that post. Since I didn't have much to write, I just.. strolled my way through lol sorry if it kinda sucks =/]]

[[Yeah, Jackie pointed that out before and I'm just too lazy to change it. I suck. xD]]
Wasn't answering? Now that he thought about it, that seemed like Corona. Still hung up on the fact that he'd been surprised that she'd come back from the dead. He sighed, knowing it hurt his little girl, but there was nothing he could say or do that would make Corona happy, so there was no way to make Lyra happy. It was frustrating to know that just being with him wasn't good enough. It was like she didn't love him alone. Her mom always had to be there for him to get the slightest bit of that feeling. It was a bored affection she showed, like it was something she was obligated to do.
"Not answering?" he echoed, eyes shifting. "Well, we'll try to call her later. Maybe she's out doing something." Following her to the door, he grabbed his keys and shoved them into his pocket before leading them out of the house. It seemed like a good day to walk, though they'd get plenty of exercise at the park.
Soon they arrived at the park. It wasn't hard to spot Evan. A smile played on his face.

Lyra surely didn't do it on purpose. She used to be very happy....until this woman came and started taking him away, making him different. Mommy doesn't do that. Mommy shared. This woman doesn't share. Lyra thought as she walked beside her father, humming softly and making her toucan dance along to the little tune. She was happy that her mom had bought this toy so she had some small comfort. For a moment, her little blue eyes gazed up at him before gazing back down.
As soon as they got to the park, Lyra stopped humming and playing with her toucan. She held it tightly, almost protectively, and looked up at her dad before holding her hands up. "Pick me up, please?" She pleaded. Ly knew if he was holding her, daddy and Evan would not be cuddling or smooching and that way, she wouldn't feel uncomfortable in a way that seemed she didn't belong. "Please?"

Her head bobbed from side to side, her gaze up at the beautiful sky, as Hootie and the blowfish played in her ear. "Well there's nothing I can do, I only wanna be with you.." She sang softly, jamming to the song that pounded into her ears.
By pure luck, she looked up seeing Shames and Lyra walking into the park. Smiling wide, she took to her feet and walked closer towards them. "Hey." She grinned at Shames, before looking to Lyra. "Oh my gosh, look at you." She chuckled lightly. "You're looking very bright in colors today, huh?" She grinned.
Since Lyra was in his arms, she knew not to push her luck for a kiss or a hug. Instead, she took his free hand in hers. "So, what do you two want to do today?"

Understanding Lyra's reasons behind her request, Shames sighed, scooping her up in his arms. He let out a little grunt, straightening his back with the weight. This girl was getting heavy. His strides were even heavier as he approached Evangeline, hoisting Lyra onto one arm so his free hand could take Evan's. Stretching over, he placed a tentative, chaste kiss on her cheek. "What's this?" he chuckled. "You're hard-pressed for ideas and it was your idea to come here?"
Every time he kissed her he heard Corona's words meddling in his head. Like he was doing something wrong. Like it was a sin to try to love again. Love still. Trust was a hard thing to gain back, and he was trying so, so hard to learn to trust people again. He wanted Corona, he didn't want her. He loved Evangeline, he didn't want to upset his daughter. He wanted to please his daughter, she would have to life with his decisions.
Being a parent sucked sometimes.
Swinging their hands, he sighed, eyes toward the sky, as if pensive. "I think my two lovely ladies should decide what we do today."

"What's this?" he chuckled. "You're hard-pressed for ideas and it was your idea to come here?"
There it was. Even with Lyra in his arms, there was her kiss. She smiled, taking his hand as he offered it. "Well.." She grinned, laughing softly as they walked. "I went as far as getting you two here. Work with me." She smiled up at him.
"I think my two lovely ladies should decide what we do today."
She looked past Shames to Lyra, with a bright smile. "What do you say, Lyra?" She asked, tilting her head to the side slightly. "What should we have your daddy do?" She joked, covering her mouth with her free hand, her eyes landing on Shames.
"Oops, I mean.." She laughed, shaking her head. "What would you like to do Lyra? We can play in the fountain.. or run in the open field...?"

"Oops, I mean.." She laughed, shaking her head. "What would you like to do Lyra? We can play in the fountain.. or run in the open field...?"
Lyra remained slightly blank faced, staring at Evangeline as if the woman was insane. Though she was simply just confused on why she was being so goofy all of a sudden? So childish? She didn't know whether she should speak or not. She was quiet for a moment and then looked up at her dad. "C-Can we go to the swings?" She asked.
She had always loved swings when her Shames & Cor had taken her to the park. Maybe it'd be somewhat the same now? Lyra hoped so. Swings sounded like a fun thing to do right now.

Lyra's request was easy enough to oblige to, and it would make her happy. The least he could do was see her exert a little exuberance once in a while. She'd have to get used to Evangeline sooner or later. He didn't plan on letting her go any time in the near future, especially with Nicolas around. And with Cor? He found that he needed the shoulder that was Evangeline.
"Absolutely, love," he agreed, starting to lead their group over to the swingset, where other children accompanied by their parents were taking up space. There was one empty swing and he passed a mischeivious grin to Lyra. "Hold on tight. We're gonna make a break for it!"
Passing Evangeline a knowing glance, he let go of her hand lifted Lyra onto his shoulders, setting off at a fast-paced dash to make it to the swing on time. For good measure he spun around before plopping her down on it, all the while making airplane noises.
"Woosh!" he tacked on at the end as her bottom met the seat. "What do you say, Ly? Think you can push yourself or do you want me to push you? Or sit on someone's lap?"

"C-Can we go to the swings?"
She liked that idea. She was like a big kid herself, she still (at times) swinged on swings. "Absolutely, love," Her eyes flicked to the swings, seeing only one opening. Sharing a look with Shames, and a smile, she gave a soft nod.
"Hold on tight. We're gonna make a break for it!"
She laughed as he went racing towards the swing. She went from a slow walk to a jog to stay caught up behind them. "Woosh!" She grinned, shaking her head at his silliness. He was a great dad, anyone could see that.
She leaned against the bar of the swing-set, crossing her arms as she smiled down at Lyra. "Lucky duck." She teased softly. "What do you say, Ly? Think you can push yourself or do you want me to push you? Or sit on someone's lap?" Her smile widened. "Push, of course. Huh Lyra?" She grinned down at the girl. "Always much more fun if someone pushed."
Her head lifted, turning slightly to look at Shames. Besides.. Lyra wants you. She smiled over at him, before looking to Lyra. Even now, I can tell she doesn't like me. But I can live with that..
