He liked the analogy. It made things a lot clearer; all the pieces began to fall into place. A smile crossed his face for the first time all day, and he chuckled, leaning into his father's palm when his hair was ruffled. He wanted to grasp that closeness, even if it was just for one moment. Because like it or not, Cian was still responsible for him. He'd adopted him. That didn't seem fair. Oliver wanted Saikoro in his life all the time, not just when he felt like visiting. That was a dad's job: to be around even when he didn't want to be. He felt himself frowning again, and he wiped the sweat off his palms.
"I guess people make stupid choices," he said with finality and a sigh. "Will you come to live with us now?" After he heard what he had said, his eyes moved to the doorway of the other room. There were other kids that would come with the package, wasn't there. Well, he didn't like that very much. But they were his family, too. He had so many brothers and sisters!
"So who am I related to, exactly?" he inquired, needing to get the facts straight. "And how come you and Mom didn't talk for this whole time? Nine years, I mean. Geez, I wish I remembered stuff from when I was little. That would make things a lot easier."

Sai looked at him and then laughed a bit before replying to his question. "Sorry, Ollie, but my place is right here. My kids....your brothers and sisters still need me to take care of them. And besides....me and Cian....well....we don't get along to well. In fact, I'm pretty sure he hates just hearing my name." Smirking a bit at the thought, he leaned forward to Oliver.
"Well...Addy & Shea are adopted. Molleigh is Amarie's. Sparrow, Soren, & Sonny, the boys, are mine and Amarie's. Which makes them, your half-siblings." Saikoro explained and then grinned, "Six is a lot...but there's always room for one more. Seven is a lucky number, after all."
True, there was always room for one more if that one more was Oliver. Ever since Saikoro had been forbidden to see his son, he always had a little hole that sunk deep into him and needed to be filled. That extra missing piece of his heart. Sai leaned back comfortably on his chair, arms crossed and his eyebrow raised ever so slightly. "Now....enough about me. I want to hear all about you, Oliver."

Why did Dad have a reason to hate even hearing his name? That was the first thing that came to mind after the crashing wave of disappointment. How were they supposed to be a family if they had to be so far apart all the time? It took two subways and a cab to get three blocks away. That was too far. Oliver wouldn't be able to make that voyage alone for years yet, and he knew it. A frown creased his face and he slumped down in his seat. Then Saikoro made a suggestion that sounded...kind of nice.
"There's always room for one more. Seven is a lucky number, after all."
His eyes lit up like fireworks. Live here? With them? Was that was he was offering? They could all live together. Or maybe just him. He didn't know. He just wanted them all to be together. He wanted his family to be...un-broken. "Yeah," he enthused with delight.
"Now...enough about me. I want to hear all about you, Oliver."
Put on the spot, he had to take time to think. His brain blanked, freezing over. "Uh..." he began unsteadily, trying to muster up some wonderful fact about himself. But there was nothing. He wasn't special. He was just...ordinary. It made him disappointed in himself that there wasn't something spectacular he could show his father. He wanted to make him proud. But mostly, he wanted to lure him back in with something amazing. "I dunno. What do you want to know about me?"
