Essence loved today.
Today she was out with her best man and fox. Bradbury padded along next to her, winding between her legs every so often and sniffing at the only vaguely familiar boy next to her. Oliver was walking along next to her, holding her hand.
She loved Coney Island at this time of year. No one was here but it was still fun to fool around on the pier. She thought Oliver would enjoy the opportunity to run and scream and jump and everything without an hiderance.
She smiled down at the little boy. "How y' doin' down there, bud?" she asked, shaking his hand in hers a little.

At first, when she'd come to pick him up, he didn't believe it was her. Kitty had bright red hair. This Kitty didn't have red hair. But she brought Meester Fock, and who else knew Meester Fock? Skipping alongside her, hand clutching tightly to hers so not to wander off too far, Oliver slid a smile back up to her and nodded a few times.
"Good! Good, Kitty! Braybeer, he yike eet, too?" he confirmed, not knowing why the fox was sniffing at him so much.

Essence laughed musically and nodded. "Yes, Bradbury likes it very much. He likes being outside." Bradbury had picked up on the boy's curiosity though and relayed it Essence. She grinned to Oliver and explained, "Bradbury's memory is stored in his nose; he remembers people by what they smell like. He's just trying to remember you 'cause he likes you." As if to prove her point, Bradbury snuffed against Oliver's wrist and then bucked his head, asking to be pet.
Glancing around, Essence squinted against the early afternoon sun. "You wanna go a little crazy, Ollie? It's all right, here, if you want. Nobody to bother by being to loud or anything." She chuckled softly. She wished someone had given her that opportunity as a kid. She was always getting in trouble for being to antsy or jumpy or making too much noise.

A brighter, excited smile came over his face as if he had found common ground with the fox. "I yike eet, too!" he proclaimed, proud of his appeal to the outdoors, and getting to share that with Bradbury. The smile faded as he visually examined the nose, wanting to know how his nose remembered him. Allowing himself to be sniffed, he set a flat hand against the fox's head and stroked him softly. "I smell good, Braybeer?" he asked.
He could be loud, and crazy, and wild, and everything he wanted to be? Wow! Taking the opportunity, he looked up at Essence and shouted, "I can be loud, Kitty? Yike dis! I be loud! Looooud! Woo hoo! Look at me! Loud! Rah rah rah!" His feet took off at a high-speed sprint, leaving Kitty behind.

Bradbury only blinked up at the boy. He wouldn't say Oliver smelled good[/] per se. But he liked it. It was a fresh sort of smell, full of life. Different from Essence's. Much different. Essence chuckled at the boy's question and shrugged. "Seems like he does," she reasoned. Bradbury arched into his palm, happy at the attention.
Essence laughed outright as his freedom. She let out a whoop and ran after him. She spun in circles, singing a happy, wordless song as she did. Barking and yipping, Bradbury followed, leaping into the air every so often. "I like it tooooo!" she exclaimed, drawing out the last word.
Nothing like having some uninhibited fun with a little dude.

Oliver threw his arms up in the air and waved them around as he ran at full speed into the distance, never knowing where he was going or where he had left Kitty. Spinning around, he looked up at the bright blue sky, never able to fathom its vastness. A less bright smile crossed his face, but it was abundant in spectacle and awe. Hearing Kitty a little ways away, he snapped back to look at her, laughing at her freedom.
"Joo thilly," he worked off the laughter, two-feet bouncing over to her before stretching up his hands. "Ees soooo bee-yoo-tee-full today! We pay flinosawr?"

"I'm silly?" she asked, laughing. Scooping him up, she spun him around in a circle before holding him close to her. "No, you're silly!" She laughed again, loving how she could just be open and free and happy with this kid and not have to think or worry. They could just enojy a fun day together. A "bee-yoo-tee-full" day, as Oliver put it.
At his question, she hummed, still grinning. "Uhhh, sure bud. We can play dinosaur. But I can't do my special trick this time." She gestured to the open area around them. "Don't really want someone to see a raptor walking around and freak out, you know?" Bradbury finally caught up with then, looking fresh and energized.

The sudden weight sinking to his feet as he was spun around made him laugh even harder. "No, joo thilly!" he bantered, taking his index finger and giving her nose a profound, decisive poke. "Joo thily, and Braybeer thilly, and I thilly, and eeeveryone thilly!" That was the way he liked it.
Couldn't do the special trick? That was ridiculous. Of course she could! Who didn't like flinosawrs? He was sure everybody would have fun with her, just like he would. Who didn't like having fun?
"Yus, joo can," he assured her with a stroke of her newly colored hair. "Don't really want someone to see a raptor walking around and freak out, you know?" He beamed a grin. "Yah," he disagreed, throwing his hands up.
"Come, come!" Wiggling down from her hold, he started off for the wide open spaces. "Pay flinosawr! Rawrrr! Do twick, do, do, pease..."

She rubbed her nose and playfully poked his back. "That's right, kiddo. Everyone's silly. 'Specially you." And then he set into a persistence for a dinosaur. Essence sighed. Who was she kidding, she couldn't deny the little boy anything... She glanced around. It was vacant here now. She just hoped no one showed up.
"Okay," she finally consented, putting him to the ground. "But only for a minute." She shifted quickly and gave a roar and staggered toward him.

"Th-peshully me," he concurred without knowing what he was saying, wandering into the nothingness that was an area to play, and play as much as he wanted to. No limits, no restrictions. Oliver waited for her answer, hands folded in front of him, Bradbury sitting at his side. Looking up at her, he squinted so not to be blinded by the glow of the sun. He loved being outside. It was warm. Nice.
Releasing a squeal of delight, he raised his arms and spun around. "Yay, yay, yay!" Kitty shifted, and he clapped, as if in approval of her change. "Rawr! Come on, Braybeer! Pay flinosawr wiff us!" He stomped around, wishing he could be an animal, too.
Having a short attention span, he was suddenly curious about something. "Kitty," he addressed the raptor, "does joo wub Mo?"

Essence shifted back again considered his question. Sensing that this was going toward a more in-depth conversation, she sat cross-legged in front of him. "'Course I love Mo," she replied. "I love you both." She pulled him into a hug quickly, settling him in her lap. "But me and you got something special, bud. Can't play dinosaur with Mo can I? And I think she wouldn't probably be afraid of Bradbury, don't you?" Bradbury looked up at her, indignant. He wasn't scary. She chuckled and petted his head consolingly.
"Much be hard with the new baby, huh?" Essence asked, thinking she understood where Oliver was coming from.

She did? He guessed everybody did... It didn't matter if she did something bad. Mo didn't do anything! Everybody loved her still. Blue eyes set on her face, he had his hands in his lap as he listened to what she had to say. "Yah," he replied with less enthusiasm than before. But she was always wanting to be with him, and if he was with Kitty, then would Mo follow? Sighing, he dropped his head, wanting to know how all of this worked.
"Yes," he answered solidly, very certain in his answer. "Mommy an' Daddy always go wiff her. An' Roo and Bennie, too. An' Uckle Dee, and Aunt Co-Lee, an' everybody." Lifting his eyes, he tried to smile for her. "But Daddy says I no can be sad, 'cause Mo wubs me, too, and I her beeg bruffer, but she no even know how to geeve goo'-night kiss!"

"Aw, poor Ollie," she hummed sympathetically. She hugged him tighter. Poor little guy. She rememebered how it had been when Benji was born; everyone paying attention to him and forgetting her and her older brother. "It's just for now, bud. Everyone's all excited with the new baby, you know. She's new and fun. But everyone still loves you just as much. Especially your Mommy and Daddy." She smiled at his reasoning about Maura.
"You're a great big brother, I bet," she complimented, ruffling his hair. "Teach little Mo everything she needs to know. Like how to give good night kisses."

Kitty was the only one who seemed to really understand what he was feeling, even if he wasn't sure what it was he was feeling. Falling into her hold, Oliver sighed. Yeah, Mo was new, but that didn't mean he was going to accept it right away. Oliver picked up his head, glaring at her. "I fun, too!!" he protested strongly, throwing his fists down.
Shaking his head, he sighed, wanting to get back to playing and not think about it anymore. "No, I no teach. Daddy and Mommy teach. I pay wiff Braybeer." He slumped down into a seat beside the fox, holding on tight, stroking his fur.

"Of course," Essence assured quickly. "You're very fun. You're my favorite play-date." Poor kid. Seemed to be a little starved for attention. Maybe he could talk to Emma and Cian, just let them know how Oliver was feeling. She couldn't hold them at fault, of course, but maybe if they knew how he felt, they would be more aware of the situation.
"All right," Essence agreed. "Let's play with Bradbury." Bradbury made a soft, mewling noise in response to the affection and padded into Essence's lap as well. He stretched his neck up, nosing against Oliver's neck.

Another night of.. what else but mortal bullshit. S&S wasn't his kind of place, he didn't want to migle with his own kind, he wanted to have some fun. " Till the roof comes off, till the lights go out. Till my legs give out, can’t shut my mouth.. Till the smoke clears out and my high burn out.I'ma rip this shit till my bone collapse..." His head bobbed to the music blarring from this.. Ipod. Strang device, but it was beautiful, hearing the anger in these men. His eyes snapped open suddenly, looking around. He smelled something.. What was that? He sniffed at the air, following the scent. He tilted his head, looking up ahead at the fox that stood near a blond woman and a child. " Well, this is.. interesting.." He mused, slinking in the shadows, he watched them. "You're very fun. You're my favorite play-date." So she was only babysitting this boy.. Interesting. He cracked his neck, from side to side. Shimmering to the other side of the shadows, he emerging with a smile. " Hello.." He greeted them softly, smiling to Essence.

Her favorite? Eyes lighting up with just the slightest hint of hope, he cast a look over to her before becoming occupied with Bradbury, always liking the softness of his fur and the way it always ran in the same direction. His concentration was broken when a man approached them from behind. He looked kind of interesting, but Daddy said people came in all shapes and sizes.
"Hi!" he greeted him with an embellished wave.

Essence cleared her throat and pulled Oliver closer to her, covering the move with a hug. She had gotten more careful lately. Plus, Cian and Emma would be likely to kill her if she let anything happen to their boy. "Hey," she replied, keeping a pleasant-enough tone to her voice and face. Her posture was alert and ready, though. Something in the scent made her not trust this stranger.
Dog. That's what it was; he smelled like dog. Bradbury, being canine, moved closer to the man, sniffing slightly. He had obviously picked up on the kindred dog. Essence let her fox wander a bit, but kept an eye on him .

"Hi!" "Hey,"
She was protecting him. He flashed a smile, crouching down as the fox closed in on him. He reached out a hand for it to sniff. "Cute fox you got there." He said, smiling. Had to keep up appearances and all, right? Well, at least for now it seemed.
"Hey little guy. What's your name?" He asked, smiling softly. All this smiling, it was horrible. As if he was this cheerful in hell... His eyes trailed to Essence, staying there a moment. So this was the one Sylar was talking about. Hmm, she was beautiful, but clearly, Sylar didn't give her enough credit.

When Essence gathered him up, he pulled his eyebrows together, looking up at her. Weren't they supposed to be able to run around and be loud and not care? Frowning for only a moment, he looked at Bradbury most of the time, until he was addressed once more by the nice-looking man. "Uh, my name ees Owiver. An' dis is mah bestest fwend Braybeer," he explained, pointing, "an' mah bestest fwend Kitty." He then went about playing with the grass, plucking it from the ground and examining each piece carefully.
