As much as she loved her kids, she had enough. Between laura, the twins, the mansion, and the daily chaos that was within the walls. Not even mentioning she hadn't heard from Charles in over a week.. Colette was ready to blow up. She'd tossed the twins to Tyler, knowing he'd make sure they were well taken care of. But it didn't mean she felt horrid for doing it. Her stomach churned at the thought of leaving them, even if it was for a few hours. She felt like screaming at this point. Laura was growing farther away from her as the minutes ticked away, and it seemed the more she tried to correct what was wrong, it just blew up in her face. She tightened her coat around her as she walked through the park. The brisk wind blowing her hair away from her face as she starred at nothing in particular. I wonder if all mother's feel this way, sometimes.. She pondered as she sat down at a bench. The leaves had all but fallen to the ground. Red, and orange, and some even a light gold color. She'd always loved fall, and spring the most. How things would die off or hibernate in the fall, and come back to life in the spring. It was all about renewal. Huh, maybe that's what she needed... Renewal.

Scuffing the toes of her boots along the path, Essence forced her eyes up. She had run into enough people that day from letting her mind wander. She hated autumn. Animals hibernated and slowed down this time of year. She could feel herself grow sluggish and lazy from nothing, just the animal in her. She hated that. So she had gone out for a walk, hoping the cool, brisk air would bring her some sort of relief. Wake her up a little, maybe. All it did was make her cross. She wanted to curl up in a warm bed. How was it that she was wearing stockings, socks and boots and her feet were still freezing.?! Stupid fall. Stupid leaves. Clutching the collar of her cardigan, she brought it closed around her neck. She freaked out briefly when she saw a strand of blonde hair at her shoulder. Then she remembered: she was ablonde now. In a fit of...something, she had ditched the fire-engine red 'do and left her hair its natural white-blonde. She was still adjusting to the change...

Everything was building around her, and she wondered what would happen if it all just blew up? Things were slowly heading downhill, and all she could think about lately was Dean and Laura. Tears threatened to fall as she pictured Dean. The last time she saw him was at the Halloween party. He seemed so.. happy, and now.. he was just.. gone.
She shook her head, looking down at her hands in her lap as a sigh escaped her lips. With Laura, it was so complicated. She tried to imagine herself at that age, but it was hard. Colette and laura were so different. Colette took after her mother in certain ways, the way she dressed, and acted. But her Father was in her too, her smile, her kind-heartedness..
Laura was so much like Charles.. she couldn't even wrap her brain around it. Stubborn and hot-headed, and cross. Sometimes.. she wished.. "No.. It'll pass.. It will.. It had too." She told herself with a slight nod. It wasn't like she couldn't understand the fascination of ATing. But the realization was, this was New York.. and to have her twelve year old daughter out there.. at night.. ATing.. It gave her nightmares.

She was never leaving the house again. Ever. Which was ridiculous, because usually Essence couldn't get enough of the outdoors; she hated being cooped up inside. But not today. Today she wanted bed and heat and Ryder and hot chocolate and... Ohhh, hot chocolate. Why had she gone outside in the first place again?
She was just turning to head back home when she caught sight of a familiar face. Holy fuck, it was Colette. Curiosity killed the cat and Oliver did call her "kitty" an awful lot. Essence couldn't help herself. She pivoted slightly and moved to the woman. She brought up her best "I know this is weird..." smile and offered, "Hi. I'm really sorry to bother you but... Are you Colette Fox?"

"Hi. I'm really sorry to bother you but... Are you Colette Fox?"
Her head in her hands now, Colette looked up. Her blue eyes were red rimmed from tears and frustration. "Um." She quickly wiped at her face and put on a smile. "Yes, hi." She sighed, leaning back and closing her eyes a moment. Embarrassment central.
The girl did look familiar, though. "Have I.. I'm sorry, but I feel like I know you." Her eyes squinted. "Are you one of my kids?" Time to rephrase that. "Students.. one of my students." She let a soft shake of her head as a tiny laugh erupted. I feel like that mother in the big shoe house.

Catching the state of her eyes, Essence immediately felt bad. "Oh my gosh. I'm sorry. Are you okay? 'Cause I totally just wanted to meet you, so I can get out of your way, if you want..."
She bit her lips at Colette's question. "Uhm, no, no. But I am a mutant. I'm at Dolce, though. Or, I was." She shrugged a little, feeling stupid. "Essence Newman," she finally said, just giving her name. Moment of truth. Maybe Colette had no clue who she was. She would find out soon enough...

"Oh my gosh. I'm sorry. Are you okay? 'Cause I totally just wanted to meet you, so I can get out of your way, if you want..."
Colette shook her head, pulling her coat closer as she patted the seat next to her on the bench. "No.. Truth be told, your a welcome distraction." She smiled softly. "Uhm, no, no. But I am a mutant. I'm at Dolce, though. Or, I was."
Colette nodded. "Okay." She chuckled softly, perking a brow at the girl. "Essence Newman," The name certainly rung a bell. "I think I've browsed your file." She offered softly with a smile. "So, Essence." She paused, turning to look at her. The usually question was about to drop from her lips, but instead, something completely different spilled out. "Why.. did you want to meet me?"

"No.. Truth be told, your a welcome distraction."
Essence smiled softly and took the seat. "Well, all right then," she reasoned. She tucked her legs underneath her, hoping to conserve some body heat that way.
"Why.. did you want to meet me?"
Essence chuckled and shrugged. "I've just heard so much about you, you know? I mean, like, you are the mutant." She laughed at that, shaking her head at herself. "I was hanging out with a bad crowd for a while but after I heard what you and Vera and all the rest do, I kinda made a turn." Yeah, killing her best friend had played a big part too, but Colette didn't have to know that.
She fought to adjust. Before Colette Fox had just been an idea; the woman Ryder --Ace had tried to kill. It was weird to see her in person, as a person. Brought everything into sharper focus, made it a little more real.

"Well, all right then,"
Colette smiled, wrapping her coat around her more, if it was possible. The wind picked up again, blowing the leaves down the path before them. God, know she was starting to hate fall.. All this cold weather coming in..
"I've just heard so much about you, you know? I mean, like, you are the mutant."
Colette's brows perked at that, and she let out a soft laugh. "Okay." She nodded. If only you knew when on behind closed doors. She thought to herself. "I was hanging out with a bad crowd for a while but after I heard what you and Vera and all the rest do, I kinda made a turn." Another soft laugh escaped her as she shrugged. "Happy to oblige, I guess."
Truth be told, Colette never let her success go to her head. She was still the person she was when she was a teen. Maybe a little more mature, now that she had a family of her own. But somethings couldn't help but change, while others, remained the same. "Never really thought by, someone seeing what we try to do.. would make them change their ways."

Essence chuckled at that as well, shrugging. "Yeah, it's just, like, seeing what you can do working together... Why fight, right?" She rolled her eyes at herself, waving a hand. "Only not put in such a cheesy way."
She was so nice. Why had Essence been so afraid of coming to her earlier? Maybe she could understand.... But thinking of that reminded her about Dean and she winced lightly. Emma had told her what had happened earlier. "Uhm," she said softly, tucking a strand of hair behind her ear. "I heard open Dean...Winchester. I only met him a few times but I know you guys were pretty close. He was great." She smiled softly, remembering meeting him and Emma at the aquarium with their sons.
She felt bad, again. "Sorry, you probably don't want to be reminded about that..."

"Yeah, it's just, like, seeing what you can do working together... Why fight, right?" She rolled her eyes at herself, waving a hand. "Only not put in such a cheesy way."
Colette chuckled, shaking her head. "That's right." She smiled brightly, laughing a bit. "If only everyone thought like us." She paused a moment, looking to Essence. "But then I guess the world would be rather boring then, huh?"
"Uhm," she said softly, tucking a strand of hair behind her ear. "I heard about Dean...Winchester. I only met him a few times but I know you guys were pretty close. He was great." Colette took in a sharp intake of breath. "Sorry, you probably don't want to be reminded about that..."
It wasn't so much talking about Dean, that brought the tears on. It was a little of everything. Tears flowed down her face, and she tried hard to wipe them away. "I'm sorry.." She said in a pathetic voice. "I don't.. usually cry, like this.. it's just.."

"Boring," Essence agreed. But nice, she added in her mind. She couldn't help but long for that world. Her life would be so much easier. He sighed a little, blowing her bangs out of order. No fucking Sylar, at least. That would be such a great improvement...
Essence smiled sadly and nodded. She patted the woman's shoulder consoling. "It's all right, I understand." And Dean would be alive. That would be a better world. Too bad, huh? "I'm sorry."
[[shoooooort, sorry]

"It's all right, I understand."
Though the tears stopped, Colette's insides twisted and turned. "I'm sorry." She waved her off. "It's my fault. I take too many things at once, and I try.." She shook her head. "I try so hard to balance it all out, and then more things come and it grows, and grows.. and Dean, and I have a husband who've I haven't seen in a month." She let out a snid-bit of a laugh. "A month!" She sighed, shaking her head.
"Ontop of that, I have a twelve year old daughter, who, it seems is her daily mission to make my life horrible, and takes pride in giving me daily heart-attacks." She was rambling, she knew that. But it felt good to get it off her chest and out to someone for once.

A month!
Essence swallowed thickly, nodding. "I can certainly relate. I haven't seen my boyfriend in quite awhile as well." She winced out a smile. "It sucks," she summed up, wrinkling her nose. But poor Colette. Her husband was absent, Dean was gone. And apparently her twelve-year-old could be a hellion...
"Twelve-year-olds tend to do that," Essence agreed, thinking back on her own childhood. "Can't understand that their moms just want to look out for them, make sure they're well cared for."
She should call her mom.

"I can certainly relate. I haven't seen my boyfriend in quite awhile as well." She winced out a smile. "It sucks,"
She took in a deep breath, nodding. "I'm so sorry, I didn't mean to just lay all of that on you." She half laughed as she wiped away the stray tears that managed to come down. "It's just.. I have too much on my plate, and Laura-my daughter, blames me for spending too much time with her siblings.. And I just.. could scream right now."
"Twelve-year-olds tend to do that," Essence agreed, thinking back on her own childhood. "Can't understand that their moms just want to look out for them, make sure they're well cared for."
She licked her lips, nodding. "Look at me, rambling on." She shook her head. "You said you haven't seen your boyfriend in awhile?" She asked softly. "Anyone I know, maybe I can send him a message?"

Essence chuckled softly, waving a hand. "Don't worry about it, please. Sometimes you just gotta let it out, huh?" Grinning, she added jokingly, "You can scream if you want; I don't mind. I'll even scream with you."

Essence smirked and shook her head. Then she shrugged. Licking her lips, she admitted softly, "Yeah, you know him..." It was out before she could regret it.

Colette laughed softly, nodding a bit. "Thanks." She replied through her laughter. A moment later, she shook her head. "It just feels good to finally say it, instead of over-thinking it in my mind." She smiled softly.
"Yeah, you know him..."
Colette perked a brow. "Yeah?" She smiled softly. "So who is he?"

Essence grinned happily, nodding. "Glad I could help," she replied. "Or, at least, listen."
Essence bit her lower lip and let out a slow sigh. "I...don't want you to get even more upset," she confessed. "'Cause I know it can't be easy for you to understand or...accept it. I mean, I totally get that; but he's different. He's not that person..." Jaw clenching she finally met Colette's eyes "It's Ryder Forrester." She let her eyes slipped shut, bracing herself for the freak-out.
She couldn't blame her for it.

"Glad I could help," she replied. "Or, at least, listen."
Colette mused over that, a soft chuckle erupting as she nodded. "Thank you." She tilted her head. "So c'mon, spill it. I wanna know who this guy is that I know."
"I...don't want you to get even more upset," she confessed. "'Cause I know it can't be easy for you to understand or...accept it. I mean, I totally get that; but he's different. He's not that person..."
This only perked her usual curious self. She sat up straighter, turning slightly to face Essence. "Okay.." She smiled softly. "It's Ryder Forrester." Of course the name rang a bell. But it took a moment for it to sink in. "Ex-excuse me? Ry-Ryder Forrester? Like.. Ace?" Her brows furrowed as she looked at Essence.
"Are you.." She took to her feet. "Completely and utterly insane?" She placed a hand to her forehead, and in true Colette fashion, began pacing back and forth. "Do you know what that man is capable of?" She questioned. "I mean.. for god's sake.." She breathed. "He's the number one person on my 'to kill' list!"

"Ex-excuse me? Ry-Ryder Forrester? Like.. Ace? .. Are you.." She took to her feet. "Completely and utterly insane?"
Essence sighed softly and shook her head. "Not Ace. It's hard to explain, but he's not Ace. Not anymore. It's like..." She shook her head, deciding not to explain it all. She didn't think it would help much. After everything that had happened with Colette and Ace, Essence couldn't imagine her caring much.
"Do you know what that man is capable of?" She questioned. "I mean.. for god's sake.." She breathed. "He's the number one person on my 'to kill' list!"
"I know, I'm sorry." She chewed her lower lip a bit before continuing. "Look, I'm not an idiot, all right? I'm not, like, chasing after him 'cause he's a-" Her throat closed a minute, unable to say the word. She swallowed and tried again. "'Cause he's a murderer. I wouldn't be with him if he hadn't changed." She shook her head. "It's not even a change. It's... He's a different person. I mean, literally." She thrust a hand into her hair, rubbing at her neck. "He's not Ace, he's Ryder. And maybe I sound naive to you, but... I'm not. I know."
