Just... to run.Stop & StareShe needed to get out. To get out of the house, away from everything. She wanted to run. To just.. run. Suppose that explained why she was dressed in jogging shoes, shorts and a tank. Running down the stairs, she smiled, waving to Colette as she went out the door.
Pushing play on her mp3 player, music blarring into her ears, she began slowly. It felt nice, feeling her feet push off the pavement of the sidewalk as she jogged down the street towards central park. She closed her eyes a moment, letting the music take over.
Steady feet, don't fail me now Gonna run till you can't walk
As the chorus came about, and the park came into view; she pushed herself. Leaping into a full run, weaving in and out of the people as she made her way down the path. Without notice, she had turned her superspeed into full gear. Her eyes opened, watching as the world faded by in a blurr.
BAM! [/i] The next thing she knew, she was on the ground. Wincing, she looked to her knee, seeing the dark crimson color of blood sprouting out. Her breathing hitched, her eyes widening as flashes of the accident went by. She let out a cry, closing her eyes tightly. It's okay... it's... everything's... fine. She thought, rocking back and forth.[/blockquote]

It was a nice day. Sawyer was staring out at nothing, middle distance, journal open on his lap. He wasn't writing in it though, not today. He was reading over his sister's entries. The earlier ones. Before they took a turn for the dark. But he kept getting distracted by the beautiful day before him. He inhaled deep, taking in the warm, sun-kissed fresh air. It was a nice day. Giving up on the reading, Sawyer tucked the journal into his back pocket and rose from his place on the bench. Might as well head home. He did miss Reed a little, and Morgan too. Letting out a sigh, he picked up the pace a little, eyes on the sky. It was a nice, clean blue that brought a smile to his face for some reason. Until he crashed straight on into someone. He cursed softly as he lost his balance. He managed to catch himself though and instantly turned his attention to his victim. "God, I am so, so sorry." He reached down a hand and saw that it was someone he knew. Well, vaguely knew; knew of, at least. Laura Fox, Colette's daughter. He had seen her around, during his time at Biella but never really managed to talk to her. She seemed really upset about falling though and Sawyer winced. He squatted to be nearer to her, letting out a slow breathe. "Jeez, Laura, I'm really sorry." He glanced to her knee, wincing again. "Ahh, well that doesn't look so bad." And it didn't. It was bleeding quite a lot but was pretty shallow. "Here, can I help you?" He wished he could teleport or something useful, get her home in no-time. The copper scent of blood invaded his sense and he tried to breathe through his mouth rather than his nose.

"God, I am so, so sorry."
Tears welled in her eyes as her head lifted, looking to him slowly. She knew him, didn't she? "Jeez, Laura, I'm really sorry." Well, he knew her. She gave a softened smile, shaking her head and placing her hand over the cut area on her knee. She was fine.. it was just.. the blood... Just thinking about it made her sick.
"Ahh, well that doesn't look so bad." And it didn't. It was bleeding quite a lot but was pretty shallow. "Here, can I help you?"
She gave a soft nod, taking his hand and taking to her feet. She brushed herself off, pushing her hair to one side. "Thanks." She said softly, looking down at her knee. It was still bleeding. She looked around a moment before tearing a small section of her tank off, to place against the cut.

"Thanks."
Sawyer laughed softly, shaking his head. "Hey, don't thank me. I'm the reason you fell in the first place." He smiled shyly to her, hand reaching up to sift through her hair. He had been worried there a minute; she seemed truly off-balance. But she seemed all right now, for the most part. She managed to patch up her wound at least.
Grinning down at that make-shift bandage, Sawyer's eyes sparkled with mirth. "Resourceful," he commented. "All right?" he confirmed, eyes finding hers. "Your hands aren't messed up or anything?" He knew when he tripped he usually tried to break his fall with his hands which left him with raw scrapes on his palms.

"Hey, don't thank me. I'm the reason you fell in the first place."
Without even realizing it, she shook her head, laughing a soft short laugh. "No I was in super speed, can't really pay much attention when I'm--y'know." She nodded, smiling. "Resourceful," She smiled, looking down at the cloth clinging to the dried blood on her knee.
"All right?" he confirmed, eyes finding hers. "Your hands aren't messed up or anything?"
As he asked, she picked her hands up, looking them over. A few indented pebbles. But nothing too major. Though now she thought about it, her shoulder burned a bit. Her head turned, looking at it. Noticing a red area, she crinkled her nose. "Yeah."

"No I was in super speed, can't really pay much attention when I'm--y'know."
Sawyer nodded, understanding. He didn't have superspeed but he knew what it was like to get lost in yourself when using your powers. He often toyed around with his hydrokinesis to relax and it completely zoned him out. "Well, I got lost in the sky so... We'll call it even," he concluded, chuckling, eyes crinkling up in the corners.
He watched her eyes a little, seeing some kind of sadness in them. Her father had recently died, Sawyer remembered. That couldn't be easy; Sawyer could relate, anyway. Clearing his throat a little, he asked, "Were you gonna run more? 'Cause if not, I could walk you back." Nervous laught bubbled out and passed her an abashed grin. "To make sure you get there okay, I mean."

"Well, I got lost in the sky so... We'll call it even,"
One hand covered the spot on her shoulder as she looked back to him. Her gaze got lost in his eyes, this boy, he loved to smile. She could see it, and he looked good doing it too. "Okay." She said slowly and softly, with a nod.
"Were you gonna run more? 'Cause if not, I could walk you back." Nervous laught bubbled out and passed her an abashed grin. "To make sure you get there okay, I mean."
She realized she'd been starring, and when she realized it, she noticed he was starring back. She blinked her eyes, ger gaze going to the ground. Though a smile proceeded to slip across her lips at his words. "No.." She said softly, lifting her head. "But I don't want to go home either." She pointed out.
She took a look around. It'd be a shame to have to go back inside on a beautiful summer day. Even if she felt worn down by grief.. She wanted to stay. "Can we walk?" She said, turning her head back to him. "Here, I mean."

"No.." She said softly, lifting her head. "But I don't want to go home either."
It was just an off-hand comment, but Sawyer read a little more into it for some reason. She didn't want to go home. She didn't want to go home and have to see her mother, talk to her... He didn't know how he knew that, he just did. "All right; don't have to go home," he agreed flexibly.
"Can we walk?" She said, turning her head back to him. "Here, I mean."
Sawyer's face broke into a wide smile and he nodded. "Sure; sounds perfect." He gestured for her to take the step before him, walking alongside. "How've you been?" he asked simply, leaving the depth of the question up to her. If she wanted to discuss the weather and what she ate for breakfast that day, that was fine. If she wanted to delve into why she didn't want to go home and what she was feeling over her father, that was fine too.

"All right; don't have to go home. Sure; sounds perfect. How've you been?"
She smiled softly, her head tilted down a little as they walked. "Okay.." She replied softly. Knowing that wasn't much to go on. "I guess.. I don't know, really." She said with a soft sigh, one hand reaching up and getting tangled in her hair.
"Things have just been.." She struggled for the right words. "Hazy?" Seemed to suit her feelings well. "My mom keeps asking what happened.." She looked up, and over at him. "y'know." She gave a light nod. "But I just.. it's like there's a block.. I can't.."

"Things have just been.." She struggled for the right words. "Hazy?"
Sawyer nodded, acknowledging her feelings. He could understand that. He knew Laura had been then when...whatever had happened happpened to her father. She had lost some memory and hadn't been the same since. But really, that was to be expected. Anyone who went through what she went through and didn't change somewhat was not normal.
"My mom keeps asking what happened.." She looked up, and over at him. "y'know." She gave a light nod. "But I just.. it's like there's a block.. I can't.."
Sawyer nodded again, lips pressing into a line. "Yeah, I can imagine... Not knowing; that's the worse." He swallowed a little, tipping his eyes to the bright sun. He didn't know why his sister had killed herself; she didn't know how her father died at all. Poor Laura... And poor Colette too. The frustration they must be feeling. They both knew that Laura knew what had happened, somewhere in her mind. They just couldn't access it.
"Have you tried...like, hypnotism or anything?" he suggested. "Or telepathy? Empathy?" Any one of those methods might be able to pry the memories from her. But it could cause some serious emotional damage: seeing everything again...

"Yeah, I can imagine... Not knowing; that's the worse."
She sighed, nodding, fumbling with her hands. "Yeah.. not knowing." She gave another light nod, her head low as she starred at her shoes. There were tiny flashes she would get. Being in the car with him.. laughing. Then... it's.. nothing. Frustrating.
"Have you tried...like, hypnotism or anything?" he suggested. "Or telepathy? Empathy?"
A soft smile grew on her face, as she gave him an odd look. "Hypnotism?" She held back her laugh, shaking her head. "No, not that. Telepathy.. yeah. My mom's tried. I tried.." She ran a hand through her hair.
"It's frustrating." She said softly, going quiet as she looked around the summer beauty of the park. "And yet.. soothing."

"Hypnotism?"
Sawyer shrugged at her amused tone, grinning. "Yeah. If you can't do it with mutant powers, why not try the human way, right?" Not everything could be solved or healed with their special abilities. Sometimes good, old-fashioned human psychology and medicine did the best. Not always, not even usually, but sometimes. And this might just be one of those times.
"It's frustrating. And yet.. soothing."
"Soothing?" Sawyer asked, confused but interested. "How's it soothing?" He kept his voice the furthest thing from judgmental. He didn't think there was anything wrong with it being "soothing" to her. He just wasn't sure he understood what she meant by it.

"Yeah. If you can't do it with mutant powers, why not try the human way, right?"
She nodded with a smile. "Why not." She replied with a shrug. "Just.. hynotism.. with the pocket watch.. Kinda funny." She smiled, her gaze drifting to the right as some kids played with a Frisbee.
"Soothing?" Sawyer asked, confused but interested. "How's it soothing?"
She took in a breath, stopping to rest against a tree. Shrugging with one shoulder, she sucked in her lips. "It's like.. part of me wants to know..." She said softly. "Then there's this other part.. that takes comfort in not knowing.."
Cause truth be told.. she felt the accident had something to do with her.. As if it was her fault.

"Just.. hynotism.. with the pocket watch.. Kinda funny."
Sawyer laughed easily, hands fitting into his pockets. "Yeah, I guess," he agreed amiably. It did seem a little outlandish.
"It's like.. part of me wants to know... Then there's this other part.. that takes comfort in not knowing.."
Sawyer nodded, ducking his head to watch his feet walk. "Yeah, I guess it could be painful either way." Once you learned something, you couldn't unlearn it, couldn't unsee it. That knowledge stuck with you. And if it hurt, it would hurt for awhile. Totally a double-aged sword there.
For him it hadn't been the same. There had only been one option for him: find out why Graham had killed herself. He didn't care how much it hurt or made him cry... But Laura had been there... She had experienced whatever her father had. So accessing her memories of him would be accessing her memories of her. And that could come with grief, pain, guilt, shame... A whole load of heavy emotions that might only cause more irreparable damage to her soul.

"Yeah, I guess,"
She gave a nod, pushing off the tree and falling back in step with him. "Yeah." This was nice. Talking to someone without having to talk about what happened. And if she wanted to, she could. It was completely up to her, which was a nice change of pace.
"Yeah, I guess it could be painful either way."
She gave a curt nod, smiling as she tilted her head up, letting the sun shine down on her. "So.." She hated awkward silences. Her brain went into overdrive, trying to find something to talk about.
"I heard you had telepathy too." She finally said, her head moving to look at him as they walked. 'Can you hear me?' She pathed to him with a smile.

"I heard you had telepathy too."
Sawyer nodded but before he could reply anything further he heard her in his mind. 'Can you hear me?' He laughed shortly, a little surprised. He didn't have much experience with telepathy; only talked to his brother with it sometimes.
'Yeah,' Sawyer replied in her mind. 'You're good at this,' he added. It still took him some time and lots of concentration for him to create a link with anyone outside of his family. But Laura had it under control and made it beyond easy for him to maintain the bond. 'What else can you do?' He was wondering what her other powers were.

'You're good at this. What else can you do?'
She smirked, her eyes twinkling with delight. 'You sure you want to find out?' She threw back at him with a soft laugh. She held out her hand. 'Take my hand, and take a deep breath.' She told him gently.
Once he did, she sucked in a breath and tapped into her Super-speed, and took off towards the fountain in the middle of the park. She laughed as they skidded to a stop, both of them flopping into the water. 'That was an accident.. meant to stop before.. well, this.' She smiled.
"And the only reason I'm good with it, is because of my mom. She taught me a lot." She missed the days when they would talk to each other using telepathy, even if they were in different rooms. It was their special thing. Their bond.

'You sure you want to find out? Take my hand, and take a deep breath.'
Sawyer let out a soft chuckle at her suggestive words and then complied, taking her hand. He took in a breath and before he knew it, they were sailing. He was glad he had taken that deep breath because he could feel his lungs compress from the sheer force of their speed. And then all of a sudden, he just knew he was going to get wet; his enhanced senses had kicked in. Sure enough, a moment later they went splashing into the fountain.
Sawyer surfaced easily, laughing and gasping. 'That was an accident.. meant to stop before.. well, this.' He shook his head, waving off her apology. He didn't mind; it had gotten her to smile at least. He splashed her briefly, grinning, before standing and helping her up as well. "Here," he offered as he handed her out of the fountain, following her out. Using his hydrokinesis, he lifted the water from their clothes and hair, dispersing it back into the fountain.
"And the only reason I'm good with it, is because of my mom. She taught me a lot."
Sawyer nodded. Colette was like the OG of telepathy. He smiled. "Must be cool. I talk to my brother through telepathy sometimes, too."

"Here,"
She laughed, taking his hand as he helped her out of the fountain. A few people were pointing. She just shrugged, knowing that they couldn't do much about it. The human and mutants were at peace, for once.
"Thanks--" She watched as the water was pulled from her clothes and hair and placed back in the fountain. She smiled. "You're a Hydro." She gave a nod. "Very cool."
"Must be cool. I talk to my brother through telepathy sometimes, too."
She smiled, running a hand through her hair. "Really?" She laughed softly. "Yeah.. we use to do it alot." She said softly, a shrug following suit. "So.. where's your brother?" She asked, taking a seat at the rim of the fountain.
She loved this part of the park.. there was something about it. Something she couldn't quite put a finger on.

"Thanks-- You're a Hydro. Very cool."
"No prob," he replied, smiling side. "Yeah, I am. Seems to be the power I got the most control over," he revealed. He could always make his hydrokinesis work without ever effort. His celerity too, that just happened. Telepathy he really needed concetration for, though, and he had to think before using his senses usually as well.
"So.. where's your brother?" She asked, taking a seat at the rim of the fountain.
Sawyer laughed lightly, thinking of his brother. "Reed? He's pro'ly off with some friends right now. He's gonna be a senior in high school next year." Crap, he hated to think about that. This would be his last year with his brother before Reed headed off to college... He just hoped Reed got into NYU or Columbia like he wanted; then he would at least be close to home.
"You got a brother and a sister, right? The little twins?" Eliza and Parker, Sawyer thought. He had seen Colette around Biella with the two babies.
