I'll be whatever you want.It was a perfect plan. The food was almost ready. The potato salad, chicken, and macoroni sat in the middle of her small dining room table. She anxiously paced back and forth in fronth of the oven all that was left was her apple pie, and well of course her sweet tea. Taking a deep breath she stirred the boiling tea bags. The tea was finished. Pouring the hot brown liquid into the pitcher with sugar she stirred the tea melting all the sugar. She kept taking deep breaths praying everything would go right. Novalee kept telling herself that this was just a friendly gesture, but she knew deep down it wasn't. For godsake she put on the push up bra. Shaking the thought she finished the tea pouring it in the glasses and putting a slice of lemon at the top. Fixing all the table decorations she pulled at the bottom of her shirt. Everything was perfect. Tonight was going to be perfect. Two friends, dinner, and a movie. What could happen? Everything. Nova's mind was whirling with possiblities. They were so close. All of their secrets were out and they were closer than ever. The timer went off and the sweet aroma of the apple pie filled the air as she opened the oven. Placing the pan on the table along with the other food and the tea she was finally finished. Sitting down waiting impatiently at her spot at the table she waited for him to get there. She prayed he wouldn't get lost, as she played with the thought of what could happen. Her thoughts flickered around like the flame on the candles.

Dinner. Dinner and a movie. Between two friends. Just friends and nothing more. Jeez, it was like everytime he said it someone was screaming at him to stop overcompensating. Because he knew that's what he was doing. Overcompensating by constantly saying they were just friends, just friends. Anything but. He brought her flowers. Because he was a gentleman and that's what a gentleman did when he visited a lady, even a lady that was just a friend. Especially when that lady was cooking you dinner. He was briefly reminded of family dinners back home. Never that warm and cuddly, really. But it was nice to be with his mother and sister at least. And the food was always beyond good. Coming up to the door that he had bee told was Novalee's, he knocked a few times, holding the flowers behind his back. Girls like to be surprised with that kind of stuff, didn't they? He grinned at that, and rocked on his heels a little, waiting for Novalee to answer.

Novalee sat legs bouncing with nerves. She played with the top button on her shirt staring off into space as she awaited a knock. The thoughts that flew through her mind with confuse anyone. Taking a deep breath she closed her eyes.
A soft knock rapped on her door. Jumping slightly she stood up fixing herself. Clearing her throat she fixed that genuine smile onto her face. Taking one last deep breath before she opened the door she felt all her worries melt away as she pulled open the door seeing River's eyes meet hers.
A cute grin climbed across her face as she crossed her arms over her chest. "Well it almost seemed like you were going to stand me up." She giggled opening the door wider inviting him in. "And what may I ask do you have behind your back?" Her eyes widened mocking fear. "Should I be afraid?" She smirked.

The door opened and River's breath caught. God, she looked beautiful. She always looked beautiful. It was impossible for him not to notice. And with that hat... He chuckled a little, tapping the brim with a finger of his free hand.
"Well it almost seemed like you were going to stand me up."
River's eyes widened at that a bit. "Shit," he cursed under his breath. "'M I late?" He had stopped for the flowers; that's why. He had thought of bringing them at the start of getting ready and then forgot about it until he was half-way there. Oh well, nothing could be done. He was there now; that's what mattered.
"And what may I ask do you have behind your back?"
"My reason for being late," River said, grin finding his face. Displaying the flowers between them, he offered them to her. "No need to be 'fraid of these, huh?" He chuckled softly at that. "Mama always said t' never go to a lady's house without flowers, 'specially if she was makin' dinner for you."
And then he inhaled. He took in the absolutely delicious smells wafting from the apartment. Christ, it reminded him of his mother's cooking. Homesickness squeezed at his stomach momentarily and he fought to play it off. Ducking forward, he dropped a soft kiss to her cheek. Couldn't help himself. "Everythin' smells real good, Nova; thanks for this. Can't wait to taste it all."

"No need to be 'fraid of these, huh?" He chuckled softly at that. "Mama always said t' never go to a lady's house without flowers, 'specially if she was makin' dinner for you."
Nova's eyes widened and her heart fluttered. She couldn't speak for a moment. A guy had never gotten her flowers before, and ever though the gesture was small it ment so much to her. Smiling softly she accepted the flowers and held them in her hands smelling them before stepping to the side for him to walk in.
Walking in he dropped a small kiss on her cheek. Her heart stopped, but all she did was close her eyes and smile.
Once he was inside she shut the door. "The table is set up over there..." She nodded her head towards the small dining area outside the kitchen. "I'm going to go find a vase for these flowers." The warm feeling in her stomach kept growing as she kept thinking about him. He was in the other room, and she still couldn't catch her breath.
"Everythin' smells real good, Nova; thanks for this. Can't wait to taste it all."
Nova sauntered back into the dining room after finding a small vase. She filled it with water and stuck the flowers in it and was now trying to find a place amongst the table filled with food. "So what do we plan on doing after dinner? A movie? Something?" She asked as she found a spot.
Placing the vase on the small shelf in the dining room she walked over to River. Giving him a big hug. "Thanks for the flowers River." She smiled softly her arms still wrapped around his neck. Taking the hat off her head she placed it on his. "I think it fits you better cowboy."

River headed to where she had pointed, finding a table loaded with food. His mouth immediately set to watering. It all looked so good; who would've thought Novalee could cook? God, she was gorgeous, funny, smart, kind and was able to put food on the table... Everything River's heart (and stomach) hoped for in a woman. A friend! Because he and Nova were friends. Just friends.
Right.
"So what do we plan on doing after dinner? A movie? Something?"
He smiled as he watched her carry out the flowers, displaying them on the table; he was glad she liked them. A lot of girls thought flowers were too old-fashioned or sentimental. Thinking over her question, he shrugged. "A movie sounds good; staying in. But we can do whatever you like." Staying in with a movie was definitely good with River. Just the two of them relaxing comfortably on her couch, movie playing...lights off.
Bad thoughts.
"Thanks for the flowers River."
"'Course, Nova," he replied, easy smile on his face. He accepted the hug, hiding his eagerness in it. "Glad you like 'em." He slipped his hand up her back briefly, just toying with her hair before she pulled back a little. She put her hat on his head then and he chuckled, letting go of her to adjust it. "Aw, I don' know about that. Looked real good on you too." He grinned then, flicking the brim of the hat to knock it up a little, catching her eyes.

Nova grinned. "Well that may be so...but you'll always be my cowboy." Instantly noticing how awkwarded that sounded she giggled. "How about we get started on this dinner." She smiled. She scooped out some food onto her plate filling it up completely. It was alwasy nice to be able to eat as much as you wanted in front of people.
She was so comfortable with River that it was so easy to be herself. She began to eat as she kept glancing up at River. "Well River...It seems I have gotten closer to you than I did my own brother." She smiled softly. "I thank you for being there for me though." She didn't know where all of this was coming from, but it made her heart flutter with each word.
She chewed nervously as she looked into his eyes. Why was every particle of her being screaming out for her to say she loved him. It wouldn't be weird to say that. She said it on the phone all the time, but he always assumed it was as friends. She meant it as she loved him, but if she were to say it. Right here....right now. It would mean so much more.
So she continued to stuff her face as she tried to think of small talk.

River chuckled a little at the cowboy quip, nodding. Yeah, that was him, her cowboy. Too bad she didn't know how true that was... then she invited him to dig in and he did so, selecting food from only the platters she had taken her fill from. Gentlemen's rules and all that. He watched as she started to eat and followed with only a little uncertainty. No grace. Not that he had said grace since he left home... It was probably just because this spread reminded him so much of home, so he expected a prayer. But without it, well, River was just fine with that.
"Well River...It seems I have gotten closer to you than I did my own brother." She smiled softly. "I thank you for being there for me though."
River paused in his eating at that. He hadn't met her brother yet but it sounded like a whole mess of issues with that situation. Damn, they were like a pair of misfits with their family histories. River didn't know the full extent of her past but he knew the basics, just as she did his. He could still remember that night that he had called her and they had talked... It had been nice. "Thank me for bein' there?" he repeated, smile light. "I should be thankin' you."
He could tell there was something more she wanted to say, something she was holding back. River frowned, not wanting her to be uncomfortable. "Y'all right?" he asked gently. He wasn't forcing her to say anything, just opening the opportunity, if she did want to admit anything.

"Thank me for bein' there?" he repeated, smile light. "I should be thankin' you."
Nova smiled blushing a tad. "No need to thank me. I guess we just seem to heal each others wounds." She smiled a genuine smile as she looked into his eyes. He was more than perfect. He was her kryptonite, and her savior. Nova couldn't see herself in New York without him by her side.
Ever since they met they had been inseperable. Every so often she would have to go to a photoshoot, or a fashion show, but the whole while she would think of him. Eventually, she would get the guts to invite him to one or the other, but at the moment she just wanted to soak this time up.
"Y'all right?"
"Yes..." She paused. "No..." Setting her fork down she looked up into his eyes with the uptmost seriousness in her gaze. "River..." She paused. her heart was beating out of her chest and she could feel her hands start to shake.
Taking a deep breath. "I think I..." She closed her eyes.
"River Dexter...I think i'm in love with you." She swallowed the lump that was growing in her throat. There...She had said it. What would happen next was anyones guess? Still shaking she looked into his eyes for a reaction....a reply.....anything....

"No need to thank me. I guess we just seem to heal each others wounds."
Wasn't that the truth. Without Nova, River didn't even know where he would be. He wouldn't have handled that first call from his family very well, at least. And well... He was just very glad to have her around. "I can agree to that," he said with a grin.
"Yes..." She paused. "No..."
River's utensils lay forgotten once she admitted that she wasn't all right. He was already moving to ask what was the matter when she continued on. He kept his eyes trained on her, waiting.
"River... I think I... River Dexter...I think i'm in love with you."
River's body seized up. She what? She... His mind short-circuited. Never in a million years would he have thought that she... That she would love him. That she would return his feelings. Because Christ if he didn't love that girl like nothing else.
When his mind finally came back to him he rose slowly, taking purposeful steps to where she sat. Taking her hand, River pulled her to stand as well before pulling her into his arms, against his chest, and kissed her soundly. A sigh left through his nose as his eyes drifted closed. This... Christ, he had been waiting for this so long. And it was so good...

Nova's heart fell when she saw him get up. He was leaving! She could feel herself start to choke up on the inside when she felt him grab her hand. She was standing. Her knees were weak as he pulled her to his chest, and then.....then they were kissing.
Her heart began to race as she kissed back with all the feelings that were rushing through her. Love, nervousness, and a hint of fear. What did this mean? Did he....did he love her too? Feeling a tear slip from her eye she pulled back slowly. "Does this..." She paused kissing him softly. "Do you love me too?" She asked her heart skipping so many beats.
She couldn't tell if she was light headed from the kissing or the shock. Taking deep breaths she stood in front of him waiting for a reply. She pulled him closer as she pressed her lips back to his. She wanted to hear him say it, but the taste of his oh-so perfect lips had lingered on hers. She couldn't resist kissing him some more.
Tears of joy started to roll down her cheeks as she pulled away once more to look at River in his amazing eyes. He was everything she needed in life. She could go days without food or water....but a day without River would kill her.

She kept kissing him, over and over and it was all River could do to keep his head straight. "Does this... Do you love me too?" River chuckled a little, lips still against hers. "I don' kiss just anyone, Novalee." He kissed her though, right then, one hand coming up to stroke lightly at her cheek. The other slipped down her spine to rest at her waist, anchoring her close to him.
"Yes, Novalee Forrester," he said, breaking the kiss gently and meeting her eyes. "I love you too." He dropped both his arms to around her waist then, cinching them tight and pulling her close to him. "I'm pretty sure I have for a while." He kissed her lips softly against before burying his face in her neck. Inhaling her scent, he just revelled in her presence.
And now... The feel of her so close against him... It was driving him insane. His hands splayed over her back, stroking at her spine through her shirt. "Is that what this big dinner was about?" he asked against her skin lightly, nipping gently at her neck.

Hearing him say it made her heart flutter. He was everything and anything she needed. Taking a breath to make sure she was still alive she kissed him softly. As he caressed her she only felt that much more attracted to him. She ran her hands through his hair.
"Is that what this big dinner was about?"
Nova smiled at him. "I guess...It was." That was when all words left her mouth. His lips on her neck made her moan slightly, and sent a chill up her spine. He was so perfect. This was what she wanted. He was what she wanted.
Slowly, as he nibbled away at her neck they made there way to the couch in the living room. They stood next to it for the longest time kissing with a strong passion that she was sure you could feel in the air.
Pulling away. "How come you never told me?" She asked breathlessly trying not to kill the mood.

"I guess...It was."
River almost groaned when her fingers dipped into his hair. A shudder ran down his spine. He had never felt this way before... Never had anyone really be a girlfriend... He had liked girls before and they had liked him. But nothing like this, where he felt like this at least.
"You didn't have to do all that for me, honey," he said softly near her ear. "Could've told me any time, anywhere. I should have told you, really." He laughed softly at that.
"How come you never told me?"
River grinned, hands moving slowly over her lower back. "I was scared, honest. Never thought you'd love me back." He laughed a little. "And then I didn' wanna ruin our friendship or nothing." He met her eyes then and let out a gentle breath. "C'mere," he said softly, drawing her down to sit on the couch with him. Pulling her to him, he leaned over her and kissed her softly, lifting a hand to push her hair behind her ear.

Nova was shocked. Was she really that hard to read? She had loved him since the day they first kissed. "River... How could I not love you?" She asked, but didn't really need to be answered as they sat on the couch.
He leaned her back and started to kiss her. It was like nothing she had ever felt before. She had never felt this way about anyone and she wanted him to know she was all his. As he brushed her hair behind her hair she kissed softly at him.
Almost as if she lost her sanity she started to pull at his shirt. Pulling it over his head. She looked at his chest in utmost shock. He was built, and oh-so sexy. She loved him so much.

"River... How could I not love you?"
He shook his head, thinking of his father for some reason. Quickly putting those thoughts from his head, he got back to what was at hand. And that was kissing the beautiful girl in front of him.
Leaning over her, the next thing he knew she was tearing his shirt off him. Laughing softly, he ran a hand over his hair, mussed from the shirt moving over it. "Hey now," he said gently. "No need to rush; we got all the time in the world."
With his knees on either said of her hips, he undid the buttons of her top slowly, as if to prove his point. He kissed each inch of skin as he revealed it, taking time to cater to her. He wanted to make sure she could tell how much he loved her with every touch. Sitting back a moment, he met her eyes.
"Are you...all right with this?" he asked.

"Hey now," he said gently. "No need to rush; we got all the time in the world."
Nova blushed a deep red, her face heating as she looked away shyly. "Sorry..." She mumbled taking deep breaths. This was her first time ever, and she was just so eager. She loved River so much. Looking into his eyes lovingly she watched him begin to stradle her and unbutton her shirt slowly kissing each part of her skin softly and slowly.
He stopped and pulled back meeting her eyes. She almost felt her heart stop. Taking a deep breath she watched his green eyes look at her with a new kind of love. Why had it taken them this long to find each other. If she had met him earlier she would have never wasted so much of her life on other guys that were complete assholes. River was her soulmate.
"Are you...all right with this?" he asked
Nova giggled, part embarassed and part thankful. He was such a gentleman. Leaning up on her forearms she pulled hs face down to hers. Whispering softly, "Of course I am. I love you River Dexter, and I trust that you won't hurt me." Nova meant right now, and in life period, but she doubted he would ever try to hurt her ever.
Leaning forward she pressed her lips to his letting her tounge play with the entrance of his mouth. She moaned softly against his lips. She nibbled softly on his bottom lip as her hands ran through his hair.

"Of course I am. I love you River Dexter, and I trust that you won't hurt me."
He grinned, feeling his heart swell. "I won't," he assured her needlessly, brushing their lips together. He wouldn't. Couldn't imagine ever hurting anyone. Especially because of his father. He wouldn't be like that; wouldn't destroy the ones he claimed to love. And he did love Novalee. Of that, he was sure.
Her hands through his hair again sent his spine tingling. He bit back a groan as he pressed forward, bringing her further down into the cushions. Kissing her neck, he brought his lips to her ear. He felt a blush rise but ignored it. There was no need to be embarrassed with Novalee. "I've never done this before," he admited softly. Sex. He was a virgin. But if there was one person he was going to lose it to, it would be Nova. He was comfortable with that.

His reassurance only made her that more ready to lose it to him. She was a virgin, and she had never really thought about sex until now. This was what she wanted more than anything now. To let River be the one to take her innocence, knowing he would protect it with his every being. This kisses on her neck only made her moan softer. He was so gentle as if he didn't want break her. Taking short shaky breaths she continued to run her hands through his hair, tugging gently.
As he brought his lips to her ear she felt a chill run up her spine. Nova wasn't sure what he was about to say, so she listened as she closed her eyes.
"I've never done this before," he admited softly.
Nova grinned softly to herself. He was a virgin too? Smiling softly she placed both her hands on eithe side of his face and pulled him to look at her in the eyes. "Neither have I." She admitted. Normal things that would make people be embarrassed didn't apply to her and River. She could tell him anything no matter what and she knew he would never judge her.
Pulling his face down to hers she kissed him softly. Pushing lightly on his shoulder she flipped him over and placed her knees on either sides of him. Grinning down at him her bare stomach showing she began to un-button his shirt one by one only to reveal a small white tank top underneath. Smirking softly looks like they were still even.
He had a tank-top on, and she still had her bra on. That didn't even count that they were still wearing pants, well in her case a skirt. Leaning down she moved her curls behind her shoulder as she began to kiss from the base of his ear down his neck to his collar bone.

This girl was doing crazy things to him. The way she touched him, kissed him, spoke to him... And wonder of all wonders she was a virgin too. Not that he thought she was loose or easy or anything but...she was so gorgeous and just held herself as so experienced. But River was happy. He was glad they were able to share this experience together.
She shifted positions then and River smiled up at her. She removed his shirt and River let a slow groan fall from his lips. Damn, her touch... It was gonna be the end of him. Blowing out a soft sigh, he pulled his tank top off, still a little surprised by the flash of ink over his heart.
His hands grazed over her sides, skipping down to her hips. He moved further down, taking her skirt along. He let the article fall haphazardly to the ground. Kissing her, he propped himself up on his elbows, arms wrapping around her waist. "Nova..." he hummed against her lips. "Bed? I don't wanna make love to you for the first time on a couch, hun."
