This was nice. The den was quite and it had a massive t.v. She held the bowl of popcorn in her lap as she waited for River to come back with the drinks. It was nice to have a friend in New York. She had been so budy with the Fashion show fittings that she had barely anytime to relax, and this was exactly what she needed. Although she didn't know about this Paranormal Activity movie. She had heard things about it, and well they were pretty scary things. She was sure she was going to be scared through out the whole thing. She sat indian style her boots on the ground next to the very comfy couch. She took a small breath. Her hair was up in a sloppy bun, and she had no make-up on. Go figure she would choose the one day she gets to hang with River to not wear make-up. She sighed. She had met River about 3 weeks ago at the Tattoo shop, and she was pretty sure he was the most amazing guy ever. He was a good friend. Grinning as she heard the footsteps down the stairs she grinned. "Took ya long enough... I was about to eat all the popcorn by myself."

River shuffled through the refridgerator, looking for what Novalee would want. He was a gatorade-and-soda man himself so he hoped she wouldn't mind the same. He gathered up a few of the gatorade bottles and cans of soda and made his way back down to the den. He was really happy Novalee had come over that day. They had met a few weeks ago and they were getting to be really good friends. Which was good; River could use a friend around this parts. Not that everyone at Belleza wasn't amazing. But a close friend... Well, he needed one. And Novalee was becoming that friend. "Took ya long enough... I was about to eat all the popcorn by myself.""Don't you dare!" he joked, laughing at the end. He vaulted over the back of the couch, landing next to her. Setting the drinks on the coffee table, he settled back, taking a handful of popcorn from her bowl. "Ready for the movie?" he asked, lifting the remote. He started the DVD, looking from the credits to pass her a smile. It was supposed to be pretty scary. Well, River was never really got afraid from horror movies, or ghost stories. But it sounded interesting, at least. And if not, he would enjoy the time with Novalee anyway.

Watching as he practically vaulted over the couch she shook her head laughing. "You're something else River Dexter." She grinned picking up a blue gatorade and popping the top. She took a small sip. "I'm as ready as I'll ever be though I'm sure my eyes will be closed for most of this movie... " She said popping a kernal in her mouth.
The movie started and it was somewhat funny though the storyline wasn't. The woman was haunted, and the fiance just seemed to joke around with it. She shuddered. She had her share of encounters with the supernatural though she was sure they weren't real in the end, but still they weren't fun.
Watching contently trying not to jump at certain parts reached in the popcorn bowl. Not notcing her hand rested in the bowl, but what her hand rested on was not popcorn it was River's hand. She pulled her hand out quickly grateful it was dim in the room, and he wouldn't be able to see her blush. She cleared her throat softly praying he couldn't see the color of her cheeks.
Just then a loud bang from the movie erupted in the surround sound speakers and she jumping letting out a small scream. She grabbed River's arm and used it to hide her face. She kept her eyes closed until she was sure the noise was over. Peaking over his shoulder she saw that it was a different scene already. She managed to look up and smile. "uh...ha. Sorry." She said awkwardly as she let og of his arms.
Though she was still quite closed to him on the couch now.

"You're something else River Dexter."
He gave a little half-bow to that, laughing along with her. Settling in then, he focused on the movie. It was hard to stay entirely focused though; his attention kept drifting to Novalee. She looked kind of scared at some parts but River could only grin really. She was so cute, trying not to show how scared she was.
He reached for some more popcorn at one point and found his hand brushing against hers. She seemed embarassed by it from the way she jerked back. River just smiled and tickled her palm playfully before pulled back as well. Popping the snack into his mouth, he ignored the fizzy feeling low in his stomach. Hey. They were just friends. Nothing more...
A moment later a bang sounded from the movie and Novalee grabbed his arm instinctively, holding on. River grinned to her as she apologized. Shaking his head, he slid a little closer to her so their sides were practically touching. "Don't you worry 'bout it, Nova. That's what I'm here for, ain't it? To protect you?" He chuckled lightly and turned back to the TV. "You get scared again, feel free to grab onto me."
He had to admit: the movie was pretty frightening. He still knew it was a movie though, so he wasn't getting too scared. But if Novalee was, he didn't mind protecting her or having her grab onto him. Because friends did that for each other, right?

Nova grinned softly as he scooted closer. "Why thank you, I got my very own cowboy protector." She said making her very best Scarlett impression from Gone with the Wind. Her southern accent was horrible. She giggled softly. Another bang came from the t.v. and she grabbed his arms being sure not to squeeze too hard.
Her arm already wrapped around his she slowly let her hand linger to his intertwining her finger. All the while she was pretending to be engrossed in the movie, but she was really focusin on holding his hand. There was something about his hand that gave her comfort. Just like the first time they met she more than happy to hold his hand.
Another scary part came up, and she placed her free hand over her eyes. "Oh sweet jesus..." She mumbled softly as she peeked through the spaces in between her fingers. "Why did we choose this movie?" She asked laughing nervously. She watched trying to pay attention, but her thoughts were on her hand in his....
and well their bodies touching. They ewre very close she was practically sitting on his lap, but not in a bad way....just in a way that she would very easily be able to hide behind him if another scary part came up...

He winced and groaned at her Southern accent, as if it physically hurt. "That's not what I sound like," he said, eyes smiling. He allowed her to cuddle a little closer. Only because it would be easier from him to "protect" her from that position.
And then somehow they ended up holding hands. Not that he was complaining. In fact, they managed to hold each other's hands fairly often. But it had gotten rather comfortable for them. He liked holding her hand. And judging by the way she was lacing their fingers together, she liked it too.
He let go of her hand as she covered her eyes, only to loop his arms around her shoulders and place his own hands over hers, helping to hide her eyes. "Why did we choose this movie?" He smiled softly, now completely facing her instead of the movie. "We can turn it off if you'd like," he offered sincerely. "Don't want y' to have nightmares 'cause of it or anything." He knew in the dark of the night, all alone in bed, things seemed a lot scarier than they really were.
If she didn't want to switch movies now, he would just make sure they watched something ridiculously funny afterward. That usually helped. And he would tell her to call him if she got too scared. They had exchanged numbers earlier and he didn't mind staying up with her if she couldn't sleep.

He winced and groaned at her Southern accent, as if it physically hurt. "That's not what I sound like," he said, eyes smiling.
"Well I tried." She said giggling. Then he asked if she wanted to turn it off. She grinned as his arm was around her now. "No...no..I can handle it..I think." She grinned. His hand was still over her eyes. She moved it down so she could peer over them.
His hand was now gently over her mouth. She grinned softly and nipped at his palm playfully. "Oh im sorry did I just bite you?" She asked sarcastically. She reached over blindly and found a small pillow that was used to decorate the couch. She swung it softly onto his arm.
"How are you going to protect me....when I'm beating you up." She giggled softly and hit him again on the arm.

"No...no..I can handle it..I think." He studied her carefully before nodding."All right. Lemme know if you change your mind, though."
She moved his hand and then... Did she just bite him? "Ow," he said lightly, laughing a bit. "Oh im sorry did I just bite you?" "As a matter of fact, y' did." She was so crazy sometimes... He shook his head a little, turning back to the movie. Only to receive a hit from a pillow.
"How are you going to protect me....when I'm beating you up."
"Now, you're gonna want to think long and hard 'bout you're doin', Miss Novalee," he cautioned. But then she hit him again and it was on. River passed on the pillow and instead set for tickling her just below her ribs. He wasn't sure how ticklish she was, but he was an expert tickler. Keeping one hand at the tickling, he used the other to take away her pillow and toss it over the back of the couch.
"I believe the real question is," he said, setting back into attacking her sides, "how're you gonna be beatin' me up without your weapon?"

Nova laughed uncontrollably as he tickled her sides. She was a very ticklish girl and it was weird how he seemed to find the most ticklish spot n her body in the first try. While she was busy tryingto breathe in between the laughs the pillow was taken from her. She was pillowless. "You're a pillow stealer..." She said playfully with a giggle as he continued to tickle her.
"I believe the real question is," he said, setting back into attacking her sides, "how're you gonna be beatin' me up without your weapon?"
He was leaning over her still attacking her sides and she began to laugh. Looking up into his eyes she smiled. "I think I can think of way." She leaned up on her elbows using her girlish charm she looked into his eyes grinning. Her lips were inches from his. She moved her lips to talk, but instead she pushed on his chest.
He fell back where he was laying down. She giggled and straddled him as she did a little victory dance with her arms. "And with that....I think I won..." She giggled and sung a lil' song of 'I won, I won'. She was still straddling him when the credits rolling on the t.v. screen caught her attention.
"It's over..." She said pointing to the screen. The black of the credits made the room darker. A shudder rolled down her spine. This could look wrong if someone were to walk in. She climbed off standing over him and offering a hand. "Truce?" She asked softly. Nothing could get more awkward than almost kissing your friend...

[[dude. i had a dream with River last night... It was NICE. XD]]
"You're a pillow stealer..."
"I only steal pillows that people attack me with," River countered, laughing. he kept up his tickling her. Not because he wanted to touch her more. Not at all. He just couldn't let her go without a fight. Had to learn her lesson to not start pillow fights. Or something like that. Yeah...
"I think I can think of way." River raised an eyebrow, sure that trouble was on its way. He stopped tickling but kept his hands at her sides. His thumbs moved over their own volition though, padding softly over her stomach. Her face was so close; her blue eyes boring into his grey. Then her lips were practically on his and his breath stopped.
Oh shit. Was she really going to kiss him? Because he did not know what he would do if she did. Sure he wanted to kiss her. But he didn't kiss a girl who wasn't his girlfriend. Which meant that they would have to talk about it... And there was no way she actually liked him, not like he liked her...
"And with that....I think I won..."
He laughed at that. There was a raging blush on his cheeks, he was sure, but he could laugh. Just a power-play. Just her getting an up on him. He could handle that. He shook his head, still laughing, as she sang her victory song. "You're crazy," he assessed casually. "But yeah, I believe you win." He set his hands on her waist, assuring that she wouldn't fall and kill herself.
"It's over..."
He turned his head, still holding onto her gently. "So it is," he said. "Sorry we missed most of the movie," he said sincerely. But it had been worth it, at least in his mind. Pillow fight, tickle fight, almost-kiss... What were they in grade school? He grinned at the thought.
"Truce?"
He was a little sorry to have her weight off of him. But only a little, really. He sat up, taking the offered hand and shaking it. "Truce, truce," he agreed. "Still scared?" he asked, nodding to the television. "We can find some stand-up or a funny movie to watch if y'are." If for nothing else than he wanted her to stick around a little longer.

"You're crazy," he assessed casually. "But yeah, I believe you win." He set his hands on her waist, assuring that she wouldn't fall and kill herself.
The feeling of his hands on her waist sent a shock through her body that she was glad no one else could feel. She was surprised to say the least, but she got up anyways. "Oh it's okay someone can explain it to me one day when I'm not extremely scared..." She grinned softly.
At this moment she wished she could read his mind. She grinned as he shaked her hand. She shook her head giggling. She was going to say she wasn't scared anymore, but then that would mean she would have to leave. She shivered for show.
"Just a tad....Do you mind watching a funny movie with me?" She asked softly as she hopped bac onto the couch. She grabbed her gatorade and took a sip. She sat with her knees to her chest and her arms resting on them.
Smiling softly she looked over at River. "So what will it be? You gonna let me stay?" She giggled softly.

"Oh it's okay someone can explain it to me one day when I'm not extremely scared..."
He laughed at that. "True. Maybe I'll watch it again, later." He thought it over and then chuckled again. "Or y' could just wikipedia it, huh?"
"Just a tad....Do you mind watching a funny movie with me?"
"'Course not," River replied easily, grabbing the remote. He switched the television from the DVD setting back to regular cable. "Wanna just surf until something funny comes up? Ms. Ainslie has, like, a million movie channels." Yeah, living in the house run by a multi-billionaire had its perks.
"So what will it be? You gonna let me stay?"
"Oh, never. I'm not one to kick a pretty lady out. 'Specially not when she's been traumatized." He laughed lightly at that. Reaching to the side, he picked his authentic cowboy hat up from the side-table. "Worse comes to worse, Ah can always jus' find some way t' make y' laugh on mah own!" He thickened his accent purposely and tipped his hat forward to cover his eyes a bit.

The look on her face was probably that of pure joy. River knew all the right things to say to make her froget all the stress in her life. He picked up the remote, and began channel surfing. Speaking of just finding something on the t.v. that was funny.
Smiling and nodding, she would have agreed to jump off a bridge if River was with her, though she was sure that he would never put her in danger. Smoothly, she scooted over towards him to where their legs were slightly touching. "Sounds good." A yawn escaped her mouth, but she hit it well with a laugh. The hat that he was wearing was the icing on top of her night.
"Worse comes to worse, Ah can always jus' find some way t' make y' laugh on mah own!" He thickened his accent purposely and tipped his hat forward to cover his eyes a bit.
"Well I think that could be funnier than any show on the television..." Nova grinned raising up on her knees and grabbing the hat from his head. She placed in onto hers trying to look, and failing miserably, tough.
Trying once again to speak with a souther accent she tipped the hat down over her eyes. "But I do believe it looks better on me." She laughed softly not able to see she attempted to stand up and strut. Stumbling she found herself falling, only to land in River's lap.
Tipping the hat up she blushed a deep rose color. Turning sheepish, she instantly began giggling nervously. "S-sorry." She stuttered. She placed the hat back on his head, not moving from his lap. "Maybe you do look better...considering I'm the clumsiest model you will ever meet." Her gaze caught his and she lost the rest of her words.

"Hey," he intoned softly as she plucked the hat off his head. "I may be a pillow stealer but at least I'm not a hat stealer, huh?"
"But I do believe it looks better on me."
"Mhm," River hummed skeptically, watching as she showed off with his hat. He had to admit though, she looked pretty damn cute. But she was that way with or without his hat on, really. She fell then and he caught her in his lap, chuckling. She was even adorable when she was being ridiculously clumcy (which was most of the time).
"S-sorry."
He chuckled and shook his head. "S'all right. Reckon you just like it in my lap," he suggested jokingly, grinning down at her. As she put the hat back on his head, he tugged on it to fit it better and then tipped it back so he could still see her.
"Maybe you do look better...considering I'm the clumsiest model you will ever meet."
He smirked at that, one hand absently threading through her hair. "Yeah, I'll bet. Too bad I can't just do to all your shows t' catch y', huh?" He smirked lopsidedly to her, fingers still passing through her blonde locks.

Hitting him playful at the joke of her liking being in her lap she giggled. Even at that she didn't move. Something about sitting there made her feel comfortable, and excited at the same time. His hand trailed in her hair and she had to swallow back the feelings that were rising in her throat as she focused on what he was saying.
"Yeah, I'll bet. Too bad I can't just go to all your shows t' catch y', huh?"
Grinning she kept her gaze in his eyes. She barely could remember what he said, but she shook her thoughts of watching his lips. "Yeah... I'm sure if you were there I would have less sprained ankles..." She was always one to fall in the heels, but if River were there she would fall on purpose.
Instantly, she recognized the feelings she had were not those a friend would have. Her heart fell into her stomach. Why was she so nervous all of the sudden? She swallowed back the lump in her throat as he continued to run his fingers through her hair. Keeping her eyes in his she tried to catch his emotion with her empathy, but all she could pick up were her own.
Or atleast she thought they were her own....
Not even thinking she leaned forward resting one hand on his shoulder and the other on his cheek, she swiftly moved in for a kiss. Leaning in her lips pressed to his and a shock went through her entire body. It felt exactly how a kiss should feel though it only lasted a moment before she pulled away.
The look on her face was surprise. What had come over her? She tried to straighten her composure, but all she could do was sit there and try to catch her breath again, and maybe stop her heart from beating out of her chest.
Greeeeatttt....How was this going to affect their friendship?

She was kissing him.
She was kissing him.
Novalee Forrester was kissing him, River Dexter. Something was obviously very wrong with the world. Because she was so damn far out of his league. Things like this just didn't happen to him. Sure, lots of girls had liked him back home. But that was Radcliffe, Kentucky... He was the football star there with the perfect (ha!) family, an angel for his sister. People knew him as an all around good-guy. He was popular. That's why girls liked him there; he was known. He was kind of the best Radcliffe had to offer.
But this was New York City. She could have a real live movie star if she wanted to. He was not even close to being the best NYC had to offer. And sure, they were friends. Maybe she was thinking of extending that to a whole friends-with-benefits thing? Like, maybe she wanted to just be... what was it that his buddie Mark and that loose blond had called what they were doing? Fuckbuddies?
But River didn't want that; hell no. Especially not with Novalee. Definitely not. So... They would have to talk about this. Great. Because River was so good at talking.... Even better when it came to feelings... Aw, hell...
She pulled away after only a short time though and seemed just as surprised as he was. So she hadn't been planning on that. So she really did like him? Well, that just made things even more complicated. Because he really did like her. But he also really, really valued their friendship. She was the only real, true friend he had now. And he didn't want to risk, possibly lose it. Not yet, at least.
"Gou shi..." he stammered out, eyes still set in hers. Realizing that he had spoken in Chinese, he shook his head a little in effort to clear it. "Chto..." No, that was Russian. "Je veux dire..." Shit! French; still not English. He blew out a slow breath and willed his mind to come back together.
Finally, he had gathered himself enough to slip into the proper tongue. "Sorry 'bout that," he apologized for the previous loss of English. "I... Well... What was that?"
Better to just ask and have them talk about it. Work it out now.

Sitting in confusion as she watched and desperately tried to figure out what language he was speaking and what he was saying. She would have lived for being able to understand any language at that moment. She swallowed the massive lump in her throat.
Looking at him trying to figure out what was going through his mind, her big blue eyes began to tear up. She refused to cry. Taking a deep breath she tried to think of an answer to his question. Standing up she took a shaky breath.
"I-i...Don't R-really know." She said in a low tone. It was me kissing you....what did you think it was? "I'm really sorry..." She walked over to her boots and slipped them on. Taking a deep breath to keep from crying she grabbed her jacket and purse. "I'll go..." She turned to walk up the steps.
She stopped trying to think and breathe. Nova was going to look over her shoulder, but she just stood there. What could she say? She probably just ruined their friendship...and she couldn't handle that at the moment.
She had gained such a good friend and then she had to go and get feelings for him....go figure. The rest of her life was fucked up why not her friendships too....

"I-i...Don't R-really know."
Oh, good, well at least he wasn't alone in that position.
She didn't know; he didn't know. So maybe they could just figure it out together. This didn't have to be a big deal or anything. They could... Well, they just needed to talk this out. He liked her, a lot. But he didn't want to be in a relationship with her yet. It was too soon. He liked being her friend -- a lot. He didn't want to lose that just so he could be with her.
"I'm really sorry... I'll go..."
That snapped him out of his little daze. "Wait, what?" he asked, turning to her. He caught her hand before she could make it around the couch. "Don't go. Please, don't go." He took in a breath, steadying his thoughts. "Wait."
He licked his lips a minute. Finally, he was able to meet her eyes. Hers were sheened over with held-back tears. "And please, please don't cry." River really wouldn't be able to handle her crying. "Just... sit? And let's... talk about this. I'm no good at talkin', 'specially 'bout this kinda stuff... But I think we should..."

He wanted her to stay?
Even after she just kissed him....out of the blue. She would never be able to understnad boys, and she wasn't going to start now. Turning around she made a sad smile and sat back on the couch this time awkwardly, and uncomfortable.
Nova sighed softly fidgeting with her hands again. "Sure let's uh...talk." She mumbled softly. What was there to talk about? Girl likes boy. Boy wants to be girl's friend....no where in that mix do you see. Girl kisses boy....you have to know your limits as a girl that is only friends with a totally hot guys. She shook the thought.
What the hell had she been thinking. Sadly, she wished that life could be like a 80's pop song. 'I want you to want me...' Bam! Then you got a couple, but to her demise not everything was as simple as a Cheaptrick song.
Looking up into his eyes she dried her eyes. "I'm not crying.." She said in a trying to sound confident, but fail voice. She was turning red just from being reminded of her faults as she sat there feelings exposed in front of him. "I'm sorry..."

"Sure let's uh...talk."
River kept a hold on her hand as he spoke. "I... Well, shit, Nova. I don' know what that kiss what about or anything, but... I do like you. I like y' a lot, in fact." Aw, hell now. He hadn't meant to admit all that. Well, it was out there, no taking it back. Just hoped it didn't ruin whatever was left of their probably tenuous friendship...
"The only thing is... You're my friend. You're actually the closest friend I've got here, y' know?" He swallowed nervously, looking away from her. "And I don' know what I'd do without you. So I really don't want to ruin what we've got going... You know?"
He hoped she understood. He wasn't rejecting her. Furthest thing from it.
"I'm sorry..."
"S'all right," he assured her. He let go of her hand to catch a stray tear at the top of her cheek. "Please," he began again. "Stay. We'll find some ridiculous movie to watch and then I'll walk y' to the subway."
